The infamous summer lull has also been noticeable in Destiny year after year. With Destiny 2, this is supposed to change. Even before the release of the Forsaken expansion in September, Guardians are expected to have something to do. Bungie has now laid out its plans for July.
Normally, the summer months in Destiny are relatively dull. If something does happen, it usually revolves around Bungie promoting the big fall release (2015: TTK, 2016: RoI, 2017: Destiny 2). But with Destiny 2, that is supposed to change.

Based on an updated roadmap, the studio has outlined what Guardians can expect from summer 2018. The developers have now specified their plans for July.
What July 2018 brings in Destiny 2
If everything goes as planned, it would likely be the first summer in Destiny’s history where Guardians actually have something to do. Here’s what you can expect in July in and around Destiny 2:
Roadmap Update:
For early July, the developers at Bungie are planning an update of the development preview. When exactly the roadmap update can be expected is currently unknown.
July 3 – July 9:
- During this group fight victory week, the Witch’s Cauldron mode will be active in the Crucible. You will also have time to redeem your remaining faction tokens and claim the victory weapon if you haven’t done so already.
- On July 7, the annual Bungie Day will take place. This is not a holiday that Bungie has imposed on itself, but a tradition initiated by the community. Fans celebrate the seventh day of the seventh month together with the studio, reminiscing about the best memories from Bungie games. Last year, Guardians received beta codes and wallpapers for Destiny 2.
July 10 – July 16:
- In this week, the Iron Banner will be active in the Crucible.
- From July 13 – 14, Bungie will also be present at Guardiancon. Fans are hoping for more information about the Forsaken expansion during this event. Additionally, the Gambit mode will be playable again.

July 17 – July 23:
- On July 17, Guardians will receive some new features with update 1.2.3 to conclude year 1. More information about the July update of Destiny 2 can be found in our article: Destiny 2: These new features await you in Year 1.
- Additionally, fans will experience the last Faction Rally of Season 3 during this week.
- The Control mode will be active in the Crucible.
July 24 – July 30:
- During this group fight victory week, you will have one last chance to redeem your remaining faction tokens. You can collect the corresponding rewards and complete your hunt for faction armor ornaments. Guardians who have not managed to obtain all faction-related masterpiece catalysts by then can rest assured: These will also be available after Season 3.
- The Doubles mode will be active in the Crucible.

July 31:
On July 31, the Solstice of Heroes will kick off the highlight of summer in Destiny 2. Players are expected to celebrate their achievements and accomplishments during this event, earning new rewards.
Not much is known about the event yet. It is likely to be similar to the Crimson Days or the Dawning event.
For the first time, there will be armor pieces with a power level of 400. Additionally, new catalysts as part of Armsweek are also expected.
So how does it look? Will this program in Destiny 2 be enough to draw you to the screen in July?
