At the start of the first Iron Banner in the new year of Destiny 2, we summarize the key information such as times or loot for you and shed light on the event for new Guardians.
With the Free-to-Play version Destiny 2: New Light and also with Shadowkeep, many new Guardians have joined, so we decided to offer some additional information for this event.
What is the Iron Banner? It is a week-long PvP event that has its roots in Destiny 1. It takes place once a month.
Lord Saladin, one of the last living Iron Lords, visits and settles in the Tower of the Last City for 7 days. There he challenges the Guardians to measure their power and light against each other in the Crucible – in a special format – the Iron Banner.
You can find it in the navigator in the PvP menu and start it there via a separate node, decorated with wolves.
What is so special about the Iron Banner? Within the Iron Banner, the power level of participating Guardians matters. Because the level advantages are active here, unlike regular PvP.
Specifically, this means: Guardians with a higher power level have an advantage over players with a lower power level. More powerful Guardians can deal more damage and take less damage themselves. However, participating is definitely worthwhile.
On the one hand, there are traditionally stylish armor and weapons with event-specific designs to earn through bounties or after match completions that you can only get here. On the other hand, players can push their power level through the Iron Banner as there are additional powerful rewards to earn throughout the event.
In Destiny 2, the mode played is Control in a 6v6 format, where the goal is to capture and hold three zones on a map. However, it works a bit differently in the Iron Banner than in regular PvP.
Initially, the zones have a specific look. Once all 3 have been captured, they are blocked for a while and cannot be occupied by the opposing team. The conquerors can then hunt during this time and score more points with kills.
All information about the October Iron Banner in Destiny 2
When exactly does the 1st Iron Banner in year 3 take place? Today, on October 15th, the first Iron Banner of year 3 and season 8 begins.
- It starts at 7:00 PM with the Weekly Reset (may start later due to today’s update 2.6.0.4)
- The October Iron Banner will run until 7:00 PM on October 22nd.
What rewards are available? As a reward, there will also be weapons and armor in the Iron Banner look this time. The weapons will likely be a selection of previous examples with random rolls.
For the armor, there will be a completely new set to earn for all three Guardian classes – Iron Will.
By the way: During the October Iron Banner, according to Bungie, there will be increased valor points across the Crucible – a great opportunity to push the PvP rank.
What has changed in season 8 in the Iron Banner? With the start of season 8 and the new Destiny year, Bungie has revised several things about the Iron Banner. Here are the most important points:
- There is a new seasonal quest for the new armor set that needs to be completed before you can buy token packages from Lord Saladin
- Until the completion of the seasonal quest, there are rewards only for completing Iron Banner matches and from Iron Banner bounties
- There are only 4 powerful bounties now, but these yield top rewards – up to power level 960.
