In the Beta of Destiny 2, a special event will take place this evening. The new Social Space, the Farm, will open for one hour. Guardians expect a disaster.
At 7:00 PM our time this Sunday, the Farm will open as part of the Destiny 2 Beta. It is supposed to be open for one hour. Bungie says: It is a kind of tour to see the situation, the vendors have the day off.
Destiny 2: What is the Farm?
The Farm is the new Social Space for Guardians in Destiny 2, equivalent to what the Tower was in Destiny 1. Guardians will find vendors and other NPCs here, at least in the finished game.
The Farm is supposed to be the place where you spend time with other Guardians, play a bit of soccer, try out your emotes or show off what you have. Up to 26 Guardians should be able to be present at the same time.
The place is supposed to grow with the Guardians. As the heroes of humanity make progress in the fight against Ghaul, the Farm should grow larger, evolve, and provide space for new characters: a symbol of the Guardians’ successes.
With the Guardian, human civilization grows. This is symbolized by the Farm.
When is the Farm open today and for how long?
The plan is for the Farm to open at 7:00 PM our time and close at 8:00 PM. Whether this might be pushed back if the anticipated disaster occurs is currently unknown.
Why does everyone think it will be a disaster?
It is expected that an overwhelming number of people worldwide will try to enter this place at exactly this moment at the same time. It is assumed that this will go terribly wrong and crash everything, making it impossible for anyone to log in.
The action is likely planned by Bungie as a stress test, or they want to see the world burn. It is not known for sure.
We do not know if a well-meaning, kind developer is behind this or one of the nefarious Destiny developers who determine Xur’s inventory, responsible for matchmaking in the Crucible or once again weakens weapons by 0.04%. (That makes a significant difference, really, trust us, we calculated it!)
Update 7:00 PM: The Farm is now open
On reddit it is said: You may need to switch characters or log in and out. Problems are to be expected.
Players receiving the error code Olive in Destiny 2 are advised to turn their PS4 or Xbox One off and on again. This is called “power cycle.”
