If you are quick, you can secure the best PvP shotgun from the Trials in Destiny 2 just for participating.
Why enter the Trials now? The Trials of Osiris are regarded as the pinnacle in the Crucible. Here, the best players compete to earn 7 victories and reach the Lighthouse and the best weapons. The elite gear is still out of reach for many Guardians.
However, from September 25 to September 29, every Guardian can actually get the best PvP shotgun. You don’t need to secure a single victory – the top weapon is really only available for participation.

This is the weapon: The shotgun Astral Horizon is the best special weapon from the Trials. It is carried as one of the few top shotguns in the kinetic slot and belongs to the crème de la crème of the PvP arsenal.
Astral Horizon gained dubious fame because even pros manipulated the Trials of Osiris to secure one.
Why this shotgun is so good: Astral Horizon belongs to the slow-firing shotguns that pack a punch and can send an enemy Guardian to the virtual afterlife with one shot from a distance.
When looking at the potential perks, it is noticeable that almost all available options are good (via light.gg). So, virtually every roll is usable.
However, watch out for this strong combination:
- Barrel: Full Choke or Rifled Barrel
- Magazine: Assault Mag
- Perk 1: Quickdraw
- Perk 2: Opening Shot
- Masterwork: Handling or Range
But it’s not just the weapon itself that impresses. It becomes so powerful because it excellently supports the other best weapons in the Crucible: the 600 RPM auto rifles.
These firearms dominate the sandbox in Season 11, with their most prominent representatives being Needler and the Summoner – both equipped in the energy slot. Therefore, the two meta shotguns Mindbender and Felwinter’s Lie are out of the running.
The weapon is thus very strong on its own and perfectly rounds out the best PvP loadouts.
Get Astral Horizon easily in the Trials from September 25 to September 29
How to definitely get the weapon: To make the Trials more rewarding, Bungie introduced a new bounty. Thus, the reward for 3 victories can be earned just by participating. And from September 25 to September 29, Astral Horizon is guaranteed to be in there.
You can effectively “fight through” to the shotgun. You can theoretically lose every single round – it will just take longer to fulfill the bounty.
In short: Get the bounty “End Game” from Saint-14 and complete a few rounds!
How to get the most out of the Trials weekend: You can attempt the bounty once with all 3 characters. This ensures you multiple versions of the Astral Horizon and you essentially just need to be able to hold a controller.
If you indeed sweep through the Trials and secure 3 victories in your ticket, you will receive another Astral Horizon. If you then use your earned tokens, there is a chance to obtain more copies from Saint-14 with new rolls.
We anticipate that the easy availability of the meta weapon will drive more players than usual into the Trials. This will increase the player pool and you’ll encounter fewer strong foes.
Even if you don’t have friends on hand, the Companions app and other LFG platforms are currently seeking players (often without a microphone).
