Whisper of the Worm
What is the Whisper of the Worm? The Whisper of the Worm is the reincarnation of one of the most popular legendary sniper rifles from Destiny 1 – the Black Spindle from the Crota raid.

The Black Spindle was nerfed after some time due to its dominance and later returned in the form of the slightly weakened exotic Black Spindle. Visually, the Whisper sniper is reminiscent of the Taken ornament of the Black Spindle.
What makes this sniper rifle so special? The sniper has the same perks as the legendary sniper rifle Black Spindle from the Crota raid before its nerf – that is, before it became the Black Spindle. With Mulligan, missed shots have a chance to return directly to the magazine. White Nail fills the magazine of the weapon with progressively consecutive precision hits – without drawing ammo from reserves!
How do you get this sniper? The Spindle successor is tied to a special mission. You can find all the details here: Whisper of the Worm – Here’s how to get the new exotic sniper and its masterpiece catalyst
How do you get the exotic catalyst and what can the masterpiece version do?
- Source: Reward for completing the heroic Whisper mission on IO
- Upgrade Effect: Additional perk Breath Control. When aiming with the weapon for a while without firing, it grants bonus range and precision damage for a moment if zoomed in.

What is this exotic weapon best for? The Whisper sniper excels especially in fights against Yellow-Bars and almost all strike and raid bosses at medium to long distances. Over time, it has the highest damage output of all power weapons currently and offers excellent handling.
As a masterpiece version, this already powerful weapon becomes even stronger. The Whisper of the Worm currently represents a top choice for almost every boss opponent.
Since the weapon’s focus is clearly on PvE, there are numerous other alternatives in PvP that better justify the use in the exotic slot.
