Improvement of PvP with Private Matches

The PvP has a peculiar status in Destiny 2. Actually, the entire MMO shooter was tailored to ensure that battles between “Guardians against Guardians” could occur fairly and balanced. Several design decisions were made in favor of PvP and against PvE, such as the new weapon system, the elimination of random perks, or the revisions of classes and their super abilities.

The Crucible has been standardized to create tailored maps and competitive conditions.

Although Bungie placed such a strong focus on PvP design, the Crucible is now massively disappointing:

• There are only two playlists (when no event is currently active). One cannot select the PvP modes one wants to play individually, but must hope that they come up randomly in the playlist.
• The PvP events are boring as they represent merely regular standard modes with different tokens as rewards

  

• There is not a single mode where power level advantages are activated. Why should a Guardian even raise their power level if they want to play PvP?
• The entire PvP is a “homogenized experience.” There is too little variety. The loot is also boring.
• Moreover: There aren’t even private matches and custom games. It is not possible to hold tournaments or quick matches against friends. It is actually a joke that Bungie puts so much work into a competitive PvP environment and then denies Guardians private matches.

Bungie announced a few weeks ago that private matches would be added “early in 2018.” This is a necessary, overdue step in the right direction. However, the PvP still has many issues that Bungie needs to address.

The wish for 2018: Deliver private matches quickly and continuously improve and diversify PvP.
