5. Izanagi’s Burden
Why this weapon is so good: The sniper rifle Izanagi’s Burden has secured its place on all lists of strong Destiny weapons, sometimes even leading them.
- You use special ammo, which you can compress into a “super shot”.
- The damage of this round exceeds almost anything in the whole game.
- Even though it has been nerfed due to its power, it is still excellent, and few other weapons can deal with pesky champions as quickly.
- The sniper rewards precise shooters immensely but punishes missed shots hard.
How to get the Exotic: You obtain Izanagi’s Burden through a long quest line that takes you through the forges of the Black Armory.

- In the heroic Menagerie, you can also fight for the catalyst for the sniper rifle, which further boosts the extra damage.
6. Riskrunner
Why this weapon is so good: The submachine gun Riskrunner has been in the game since the Destiny 2 beta. Just as long, it has been one of the best primary weapons for PvE.
- If you receive even a sliver of arc damage, the exotic perks activate.
- You now resist incoming arc damage significantly.
- Riskrunner deals extra damage.
- When you hit enemies, bolts can jump to nearby foes.
- Getting hits automatically refills your magazine.
- Killing enemies can theoretically extend the buff indefinitely.
How to get the Exotic: If you don’t already own the weapon, you can obtain Riskrunner along with the catalyst (+30 range) through a short quest called “Diligence and Reward”.

7. Whisper of the Worm
Why this weapon is so good: The heavy sniper rifle Whisper of the Worm is one of the most famous weapons in the Destiny universe. Essentially, players have equipped it again and again in various forms since Destiny 1.
- The base precision damage is higher than that of sniper counterparts.
- Three quick precision hits refill the magazine – you draw ammo from reserve.
- Missed shots have a good chance to return directly to the magazine.
How to get the Exotic: In the cult mission “The Anomaly” on Io, you can earn the exotic sniper rifle.
- There you will also receive the Whisper catalyst and level it
- With the catalyst, you deal extra damage when you look through the scope for a short moment.
- The downside: If you haven’t leveled the catalyst by now, you won’t be able to before Beyond Light: Whoever wants to max out 2 of the strongest weapons in Destiny 2 must hurry
8. Perfected Outbreak
Why this weapon is so good: The exotic pulse rifle Perfected Outbreak relies heavily on the nasty SIVA technology:
- By landing rapid precision kills, you create SIVA nanite swarms.
- The nanobots seek out their target and deal damage, sticking to them.
- The weapon deals extra damage the more SIVA nanites are on an enemy – the nanites from allies count too.
- Coincidentally, you reload the magazine faster after precision kills.
The weapon is ideal for clearing out many adds, or when used as a group, it can be a threat even to raid bosses.
How to get the Exotic: At the end of the mission “Zero Hour“, you are guaranteed to receive Perfected Outbreak.
- Here you can also find and level the catalyst for the Exo pulse rifle
- With the catalyst, the SIVA nanites deal more damage, and enemies killed with them spawn more nanites.
- As with Whisper, the remaining time will not be enough if you only start today. Because with the launch of Beyond Light, many missions and locations will disappear into the content vault.
