In Destiny 2 , the new season starts on December 10th. Bungie announced a new activity for 6 players: it will be the Sundial. Behind it is a sci-fi plot, Cabal want to manipulate time.
Here is the background: In DLCs that do not introduce a new raid, Bungie often includes special “group activities” – now increasingly for 6 players. This has become a tradition. House of Wolves brought “Prison of Elders” to Destiny 1 back in 2015.
At that time, the reaction was a heartfelt: “Why isn’t there a raid?”
After that, however, players were too busy laughing at the legendary appearance of community manager DeeJ to dwell on it further.
DeeJ died way too often during a live stream back then, creating a somehow strange atmosphere, and since then the community manager hasn’t touched a controller when he’s live on air.
Meanwhile, the Destiny veterans have gotten used to these “replacement” activities. One of the best 6-player activities was the “Menagerie” from Season 7. It was highly praised. We said back then: It brings the coolness of raids – just more relaxed.
The 6-player activity in the new season will be called “The Sundial”.
Cabal want to rewrite history
Here is the background: In the trailer for the new season, Osiris explains that he built the Sundial to manipulate time. His plan was to resurrect his friend Saint-14, the greatest Titan of all time.
Apparently, that worked half-heartedly, but there is new trouble. The Red Legion, an elite unit of the Cabal, plans to use the Sundial to rewrite the end of the “Red War.”
In Destiny 2, the Guardians defeated Dominus Ghaul (known as Gary) in this context and dealt the Red Legion a heavy defeat.
Apparently, the Red Legion wants to rewrite time so that it wasn’t us who won the battle, but Dominus Ghaul with his space turtles.
Ghaul wanted Bungie to portray him as the “big bad” back then, a colossus like Bane from the Batman comics. However, the chatterbox Cayde-6 joked about Ghaul in a clip and called him “Gary.”
That stuck and gave the villain something ridiculous.
How will this play out? The exact procedure of the activity is not yet known. “The Sundial” is supposed to be a matchmaking activity for 6 players. It is tied to the purchase of the season pass.
It could very well be that players first have to rescue Saint-14 during the campaign to then unlock the Sundial. Here, you will obviously have to fight against Cabal.
Bungie promises “new weapons” as a reward. Guardians are supposed to receive them when they complete “Time-Lost Weapon Forms.”
What is the current mood? Guardians hope for an activity that is fun and not just completed to earn “Triumphs.” Many are currently feeling the disappointment that there is still no sign of the “Trials.”
Some believe that Saint-14 could play a central role in the Sundial.
