In Destiny 2, a new speedrun world record has been set that looks more like Mario Kart than a first-person shooter. The highlight is a daring jump with the Sparrow that we all wanted to attempt.
What kind of record is this? In video games, we like to spend countless hours playing the same activities hundreds of times. Speedrunners take this to the extreme – they not only want to complete a mission but to do it as quickly as possible.
The three guardians AceyBaby, Granger, and BjarturFO tackled the new Prophecy dungeon from Season 11. It’s essentially a mini-raid, including two boss fights, gravity puzzles, and a large jumping section.
The final boss is defeated in just 8:04 minutes. For most players, this is a task that typically takes about an hour. Viewers may feel dizzy as the dungeon looks like a drug trip, especially because the highlight is a jump no one thought possible.
This impossible jump is the highlight: In the middle of the dungeon, a massive chasm opens up before the players that they must cross. Normally, the goal in the distance is reached by hopping over platforms and floating pyramids.
Each player likely thought upon entering this area: “Should I just blast down with the Sparrow? Take a leap just to see how far I can go?” The speedrunners prove that you can jump all the way to the end!
However, this won’t work just by going full throttle with eyes closed. The adrenaline junkies drop during the flight, call for a new vehicle, and boost themselves over the chasm with flips.

How did it go so fast? The bosses in Destiny are taken down in seconds, it’s almost a part of daily life now. But how did the three guardians manage to blitz through the dungeon and its mechanics?
Here are their tricks:
- The runners start with 3 Solar Warlocks. Through the Icarus Dash and improved Gliding, they overcome incredible height differences.
- Even in the warm-up phase, they collect particles needed for the first boss fight.
- The boss is down in 10 seconds: This is made possible by Overwhelming Darkness, a Nova Bomb, and sword whirls – the fireworks are accompanied by the statement “Goodbye Framerate”
- Generally, the players rely almost exclusively on swords: Depending on the encounter, they use the Falling Guillotine or the Black Talon
- To push their speed, they rely on movement exotics
- In the last boss fight, one player switches to Hunter to pressure him with arrows
- The guardians only carry the gear they need in their inventory and switch at exactly the moments when the next location is being prepared.
Interestingly, there is still room for improvement. During their run, the 3 runners discuss what could be done better or which tactics they want to try in the future. Their goal is to complete the dungeon in under 8 minutes.
Ironically, the speedrunners don’t have much time left to do this, as the new dungeon will soon be temporarily removed from the game: Destiny 2 loses the new dungeon at the end of Season 11 – but not for good
