In recent days, a discussion has developed in Destiny 2 that again splits streamers and players into two camps. The question is whether a dungeon boss simply has too much health or if players just do not know how to play such things.
This is hard for players to swallow: A current thread on Reddit has reignited the discussion within the Destiny 2 community about why the boss in a 3-player activity has more health than a boss in a 6-player activity.
- The thread refers to the last boss from the dungeon “Ghosts of the Deep” and reflects the thoughts and problems of many Destiny players, who continue to be tested by this dungeon.
- It also suggests that the excessively high boss health must be the reason why this is likely one of the least played dungeons.
Streamers disagree: However, in this debate, the different perspectives between players and streamers are again apparent. They disagree, show how it’s done, and claim that it’s all just “DPS 101 stuff” and nothing more.
Here you see the dungeon boss that divides the community:
Streamers mock lack of player expertise: “This is DPS 101 stuff.”
Streamer shows how it’s done: After a new Reddit thread about the boss from the dungeon “Ghosts of the Deep” has once again received a lot of attention, Datto, one of the most well-known Destiny streamers, spoke out on Twitter. He shows a clip in which he and his team kill the dungeon boss in one phase with rocket launchers and comments:
Rockets have been meta for so long. Come on, guys. This is DPS 101 stuff!
Datto comments on a Reddit thread
This suggests that handling such a challenge should actually be basic knowledge in Destiny 2. Moreover, many streamers believe that the challenge in the form of a resilient boss opponent has made a dungeon in Destiny 2 exciting again.
Datto makes it clear that understanding and applying DPS strategies and teamwork is an essential part of Destiny 2. Players should therefore refine their tactics and know the current weapon meta in the game, rather than play what they always play.
You need to play the meta that is in front of you, not the one you wish you had.
explains Destiny streamer Datto in his Twitter clip
His streaming colleague Gladd, on the other hand, prefers to be sarcastic and responds to Datto’s post as if he were a player who is simply too dumb to use a rocket launcher.
Do you have a guide on how to shoot/load such a rocket? Looks complex.
Gladd jokes under Datto’s tweet
His statement refers to the supposed simplicity of the DPS mechanics of a rocket launcher in Destiny 2, which has become second nature to experienced players like him, while it seems to present too great a hurdle for less experienced players at present.
“Don’t play endgame if you’re not prepared for it”
Casual players are at a disadvantage: However, such comments do little to help players who find themselves in this crosshairs of mockery. They continue to struggle under the huge health bar and the jittery boss in the dungeon “Ghosts of the Deep.”
This raises the question of whether it’s the players themselves or the unyielding difficulty of the boss that is to blame.
SouthNorth_WestEast places the blame rather on Bungie and comments:
I love the dungeon, but the health and shields are just ridiculous. It seems like Bungie’s dungeon philosophy (at least based on “Guardian’s Pillar” and “Ghosts of the Deep”) only forces you into as many DPS phases as possible.
comments the player SouthNorth_WestEast about his casual experience in the dungeon
Some players also noted that not everyone can master the game at such a professional level, whether due to lack of time, limited experience, equipment, or simply different priorities in gaming. And streamers are part of the 1% of players in Destiny 2 who naturally have no problems with this.
Other players, like OhhLSSJ, do not understand why players even approach and play the dungeon: “Why do endgame activities if you’re not ready for endgame activities?” he asks.
Even if the mockery of the streamers in this discussion is certainly meant humorously. It still carries the risk of taking the fun out of the game for frustrated players, especially if a boss has as much health as this one.
On the other hand, this is still endgame content, and to reach it, certain prerequisites are simply necessary, such as good builds, appropriate meta weapons, and a successful tactic. Therefore, some also feel that those who do not use these things and do not develop further in the game are to blame themselves.
This is what Bungie says about the challenge in the dungeon
Our Destiny author spoke with Brian Frank, design lead at Bungie, about the fact that the boss in this dungeon has so much health and that players are complaining about it. He is not worried about the abilities of all guardians in Destiny 2.
There should be this tension between the boss’s behavior and the time it takes to [break his shields]. So, given the conscious decision to adjust for the fireteam, we saw solo flawless playing as one of the toughest achievements in Destiny and wanted to establish and maintain that as an aspirational feat.
We know that players will develop their strategies and that we will make adjustments to subclasses or whatever to provide them with more tools. So we took a certain leap of faith by making this tuning in advance, so that it is there for the players to tackle and achieve.
We are not worried about whether players may produce combinations later on, in terms of damage or strategy.
explained Brian Frank, design lead at Bungie
We want to know your opinion on the debate between streamers and players about the dungeon and its challenge in Destiny 2. Do you think that this humorous mockery is helpful, or do you find it simply off-target? Feel free to tell us in the comments – also share how your experiences in the dungeon are by now.
In Season 22, some bosses in Destiny 2 may not be taken down with rockets but with blades, as this knife causes a lot of damage:
A weapon gets the most elaborate upgrade that Destiny 2 has ever created, causing nasty melee damage
