In Destiny 2 there was no proper story conclusion for Season 8. However, the missing transition to Season 9 now actually exists. But not in the way many Guardians had hoped.
What is the problem with Season 8? Season 8 is almost over, and there is no sign of a proper finale. But Bungie kept their word and meaningfully linked the upcoming Season 9 with the events.
However, this was not done through an in-game event or a cool trailer, but through various short stories on the Destiny developer’s website. The finale takes place almost hidden. We show you the story here.
Only those who look closely will find the finale of Season 8
This is how the story will be concluded: Recently, Bungie said: “It is still not entirely clear what your victory has achieved, but the closer the next season approaches, the more you will learn about how the world evolves because of it.” Guardians were already doubting this statement.
But since the reveal stream last week, lore entries have been appearing daily on Bungie’s official page. Among other things, it tells the backstory of Saint-14 or Osiris. We learn some interesting details, such as the mysterious Exo inspecting Osiris’ time machine.
The story of the Vex’s attack and its consequences thus leads into the events of Season 9. But not in the way many Guardians surely wished. However, those who want to know why the Cabal will mess with the timeline in the next season should take a look at the texts.
These background stories are particularly interesting: Two of the lore snippets published so far are, in our view, particularly worth reading. They report on the consequences of our battle against the ‘Immortal Mind’ and why the Cabal can manipulate time:
- The deeds of mutual friends: In this short story, we learn what our fight during the Vex invasion caused. Osiris finds a future on his time travel where the Last City has been completely destroyed. By defeating the Vex, we Guardians changed the future. And not for the better – even the Traveler is gone in a few decades.
- Sisters: This tale gives us insight into how the Cabal managed to seize the time machine. While Osiris had camouflaged the machine, it was found by four Cabal Psions in his absence. They began to manipulate the timeline and were able to undo our victory in the Red War.
The stories explain why we have to fight for the Sundial in Season 9. Only through our repeated victories against the Vex were the Cabal able to violate the timeline. Now it is up to us to set everything right again and to save the Last City once more.
What’s happening in Destiny 2 right now? Guardians are currently excited, as a new season is knocking at the door tomorrow evening. On December 10, at reset, the Guardians will officially be in the Season of Dawn.
The upcoming Season 9 aims to keep players entertained with
- the new PvE activity Sundial
- many changes and adjustments
- and a packed season pass
Other content can be found in the roadmap for Season 9. Until then, Season 8 is still ongoing. And the conclusion of the Season of the Immortal did not exactly bring a smile to the faces of Destiny players.
