The online shooter Destiny 2 actually continues its story from Forsaken every week. But those who want to see it have to make an effort and complete a quest each week to gain an audience with the queen. So, few see what is happening in the background.
Destiny 2 is often criticized for not bringing enough new content. And the content that comes every week is hardly seen by anyone.
This is the situation in Destiny 2 right now: The heart of Destiny 2 Forsaken is the “Dreaming City.” It is trapped in a curse, so it resets every three weeks and the curse begins anew.
This is due to a clever move by Savathûn, a trickster goddess inspired by corrupted Vex ideas. Typical Destiny.
The devilish plan is that the Guardians must go through this curse cycle; otherwise, the Taken will overrun the Dreaming City. However, by going through the cycle, Savathûn grows stronger.
The NPCs of Destiny know that they are stuck in this curse and comment on it to the player. They try to break this cycle and are seeking help from Mara Sov.
The audience with the queen is different every week
This is what you need to do to see the story: This background story can only be seen by those who put in some effort and do this every week starting Tuesday evening:
- You have to get a quest from Petra Venj – it costs 40 Dark Fragments.
- After that, you must complete this quest and finish the Blind Well either 5 times on Tier 2 or 2 times on Tier 3 heroic.
- Then you pilgrimage to the Oracle location, offer your sacrifice, and either watch a cutscene or listen to an audio segment. An audience with the queen, Mara Sov, is granted.
The special part: This “audience” with the queen changes from week to week. Even though the rest remains relatively static, this audience is the moving part that progresses and tells an ongoing story.
What is the story about?
Through the Oracle, players can contact Mara Sov and ask for her help. However, she seems to be involved in some sort of metaphysical conflict and is fighting on other fronts.
In the last week, the players’ Ghost became increasingly grumpy and confronted Mara Sov about why she was always absent and only spoke cryptically without helping the players break the curse.
The Ghost is becoming more and more frustrated. After all, we are now in the 7th cycle.
Before that, players could watch the cutscene, in which Uldren Sov awakens, or mysterious triangular ships with which Mara Sov is negotiating.
This is the problem: As Forbes notes, it is quite elaborate and tedious to complete this quest every week. It is estimated that only about 5-10% of all players go through this effort and actively pursue the quest.
Some would merely experience this on YouTube.
Even in Destiny 1, Bungie was criticized for telling a great story, but outside of the game through the Grimoire. In Destiny 2, the story is now in the game, but quite hidden.
