With Destiny 2 Beyond Light, players gain access to the dark Stasis powers. Finally, we know details about the new classes and now we know: The Warlock will be a truly nasty ice mage.
This is the new Stasis Warlock: Bungie now introduces the Stasis Warlock in detail for the first time. The focus is called Shadebender and will be a truly nasty ice mage.
The Warlock is therefore the first character we know more about, how he and his new abilities will work in Beyond Light. Because in autumn 2020, Destiny 2 introduces its first new element at all, after 6 years. So far, we could only admire the fresh abilities in trailers, and solid information has been scarce – that has now come to an end.
We present to you in this article what the new abilities and the Warlock’s Super are called, how they work, and when you can expect information about the Hunter and Titan.
If you want to learn more about the dark element Stasis, which focuses more on control than direct damage, you can find the key information here:
- After the new Stasis trailer: Destiny 2 explains the first cool ice abilities
- Destiny 2: These 3 races could also receive the new Stasis powers
- Bungie talks about the new damage type Stasis and the future of Destiny 2
The skills of the Shadebender Warlock in Destiny 2: Beyond Light
What we know about the melee: The new melee ability of the Warlock is called Penumbra Explosion. You use your Stasis staff to shoot ice shards. All enemies hit freeze immediately.
- You can then finish off the ice sculpture enemies and shatter them
- Alternatively, you leave them incapacitated and take care of other matters
How long the shock freeze lasts and whether enemies thaw out on their own, we do not know at this time.
This continues the trend that the recent melee attacks of the Warlock are more ranged attacks. Like the Arc Surge from Forsaken or the seeking Solar Charge.
This ensures that he stands out from Titans and Hunters (without throwing knives). It fits perfectly with his role as a space mage; after all, you finally have a real staff.
Here’s how the new Super will work: The Stasis Super of the Shadebender is called Winter’s Wrath. For his most powerful ability, the Warlock uses the Stasis Scepter. The Super unfolds in two phases:
- First, you float around and can freeze everything in your vicinity with projectiles
- Then you activate a shattering shockwave – all frozen enemies turn into ice bombs and explode in a massive explosion
Other classes can also have fun with frozen enemies. It currently looks like Stasis relies on a cool combo system, similar to what we see in Anthem.
What about the grenades? At this time (September 2), there are no more detailed, official information about the Stasis grenades.
We already know from trailers that ice walls can be created using grenades – these can serve as a springboard or barrier. Stasis fields, which slow down enemies, have also been seen. Since grenades are not part of the Warlock skills, it can be assumed that they are likely the same for all 3 Stasis classes.
You can also customize grenades, Supers, class abilities, and melee attacks of the Stasis classes very individually. This responds to Bungie’s desire to bring more customization into the game. Soon, you can read a dedicated article about it on MeinMMO.
Bungie has also released a short clip showing the new Stasis Warlock in action:
When will information about the other Stasis classes from Beyond Light be released?
The Warlock was just the beginning of the information offensive about the new element. Within a week we will finally know more about the icy abilities of the Titan and Hunter:
- On September 3, the Titan (Colossus) will be in the spotlight
- On September 8, information about the Hunter (Revenant) will follow
Keep in mind that we will probably report about it in German time only in the morning of the next day.
What do you think of the new Warlock focus and the Stasis abilities in general? Do you think, like MeinMMO author Philipp, that they will rejuvenate PvE, but destroy the Crucible?
I predict: With Destiny 2 Beyond Light, the PvP will be a total wreck
