This video about Destiny 2 doesn’t make much sense, but it’s incredibly cool!
Sparrows are the vehicles of the Guardians in the Destiny universe: Sleek vehicles that hover slightly above the ground and can quickly take you from A to B in the various worlds. How to get your first Sparrow in Destiny 2 is shown here.
Activision has now released a video that puts the Sparrows in the spotlight. In it, you can see how cool Sparrows are in reality – which can’t hover above the ground, but can skim over water!

“Real” Sparrows – skimming over water at 40 km/h!
According to Activision, it took two months to develop these Sparrows. They are based on Jetovator technology – a technique that allows you to hover over water with the help of water propulsion and significant pressure.
The stars of Nitro Circus, Ryan Williams and Blake “Bilko” Williams, are featured in the video, testing these real-life Sparrows. They are joined by professional hydro-flight athlete Joey Natale. Together they demonstrate some stunts and tricks like “Supermans,” “No Handers,” and flips.
The Sparrows are said to be capable of speeds up to 25mph (about 40 km/h) and can rise up to 20 feet (around 6 meters) into the air.
By the way, the location is Shasta Lake in California.
It’s not entirely clear what this video is about. Bungie tweeted it a few hours ago with the headline “Did that just happen?” – and that’s probably what most Guardians who have seen this video are thinking.
Some speculate that this could be an elaborate announcement for a future Sparrow racing event. However, this seems unlikely. It’s probably just a quirky advertisement for Destiny 2.
These water Sparrows likely won’t go into production – so we can only watch the video and perhaps dream a little about owning a real Sparrow one day.
