Today marks the start of the free Solstice event 2023 in Destiny 2. Bungie has already revealed some initial details. Here you will find out what to expect in this summer highlight.
The essentials about the Solstice 2023 in brief:
- Destiny 2 will launch the Solstice Event 2023 on July 18 at 7:00 PM
- There will be glowing armor as well as the exclusive strand weapon ‘Crowning Conversation’
- The Solstice event offers 2 new buffs and changes to difficulty level
- Guardians can improve the stat values of their armor for free and make them glow
What kind of event is the Solstice? Every summer, it is customary to celebrate the limited-time ‘Solstice Event’ in the European air zone in Destiny 2. The organization of the event and the assignment of tasks to the Guardians is, of course, taken care of by Space-Omi Eva Levante.
Bungie adorns the Tower with colorful flowers and decorations; during the ‘Campfire Party,’ summer items and weapons can be earned, as well as silver branches.
The Solstice also offers three special features regarding armor and weapons.
- On one hand, there are glowing armors that are popular among the Guardians.
- On the other hand, through the Solstice event, you can improve your legendary armors and specifically focus on stat values like ‘Resilience’ or ‘Recovery.’
- And of course, there will also be an exclusive weapon during the Solstice 2023 – the very first strand rocket launcher.
If you want to make the optimal fine-tuning for your build in Destiny 2, the Solstice is the right event for you. And you will look particularly stylish while at it.

What’s new in the Solstice event 2023? As Bungie has communicated, they simplified the armor improvement process for all classes last year. Perfect values with 100 Discipline for the best grenade builds or 100 Recovery to perform better in the Crucible are now easier and accessible to everyone thanks to the event.
In 2023, changes were made to the difficulty level of the event. Bungie worked on both enemy density and the overall difficulty of the ‘Campfire Party’ activity.
You will notice that you have to exert yourself a bit more to ignite the fire. In addition, we are introducing two new buffs to add even more variety.

These buffs are only active during the Solstice 2023:
- The buff ‘Firebound’ is only active in the ‘Campfire Party’ and increases recovery and super regeneration when you are near a fireteam member.
- The buff ‘Flicker’ is only active in the ‘Campfire Party’ and the Vanguard Ops playlist, and activates waves of paracausal fire around you when you quickly defeat fighters, dealing damage to nearby enemies.
These are the rewards for the Solstice 2023
This is what the strand rocket launcher ‘Crowning Conversation’ can do: In appearance, the new strand rocket launcher resembles the Gambit rocket launcher ‘Bad Omen,’ but clearly with a precision frame.
And specifically, this could be disappointing for some players, as these variants deal 20% less damage than rocket launchers with adaptive or aggressive frames.
Furthermore, ‘Crowning Conversation’ will have the following perks:
- First column: Shot Swap, Fisticuff, Demolisher, Prepared for Anything, Impulse Amplifier, Self-Loading Holster, and Ensemble
- Second column: Chain Reaction, Malicious Assassin, One for All, Slippery, Brawler, Cluster Bomb, and Adrenaline Junkie
This is the origin trait of the weapon:
- ‘Dream Job’ – For each reload, assist, or kill assist, the weapon is refilled from reserves, potentially overflowing the magazine.
These are the new event armors: In addition to the unique feature that every Guardian can perfectly optimize the Solstice armors, players especially love the fact that they can earn a glowing armor.
The new Solstice armor set includes both free and paid glowing options, just like in previous years. And just like last year: When you fully upgrade a piece of armor with material, it will glow.
So you have the choice of whether you prefer to grind for the sets for free or buy them directly.
Additionally, there is another chance this year to earn the Solstice seal and the Flamekeeper title by completing the event challenges.
How do I make my armor glow for free? To make your armor glow for free and focus it, you need to find and use silver branches, silver ash, and material.
- Silver branches are earned by completing activities in Destiny 2.
- Your earned silver branches must then be ‘burned’ in the event activity by completing the ‘Campfire Party’ activity to receive silver ash. With the silver ash, you can then redefine the armor values on the armor mod screen.
- Material is earned by completing the challenges of the Solstice event. You can then spend it to improve the armor values. Each piece of armor can be improved three times.
Good to know: Each time you upgrade a piece of Solstice armor, it is permanent and applies to all Solstice pieces for that slot. And you can also complete the upgrade tasks after the event ends.
- If you upgrade your helmet to level 3, all Solstice helmets in your inventory and all future helmets you receive for that class can access additional rolls of level 3.
What else is there to earn? Of course, there will also be various cosmetics again. Among them, a small ‘Bumper Boat’ that has a water effect. This was leaked by mislead via Twitter:
Or you can get this ‘Lawnmower’ Sparrow during the Solstice, with which you can mow down the nasty green grass you touched in this Season 21. It’s still unknown whether these two cosmetics will also be available for in-game currency Glimmer.
When does the Solstice take place? The event starts today on July 18, 2023, at the Weekly Reset at 7:00 PM. It will be active for 3 weeks as always, giving you until August 8, 2023, to maximize your armors and earn the god roll of the strand rocket launcher.
Who can participate in this event? The event is free, so any interested player can participate – regardless of additional content. New players only need to complete the introductory quest with Eva for this.
