In Destiny 2, you will have an easier time obtaining the two top grenade launchers Wendigo GL3 and The Mountaintop starting next week. The changes to the quests are now known.
These are the grenade launchers in question: A few weeks ago, Bungie announced that they want to make the quests for the top weapons “The Mountaintop” and “Wendigo GL3” more accessible, i.e., easier.
They are two powerful grenade launchers that rank among the best boss killers in Destiny 2. They are therefore highly sought after.
However, players previously had to grind for a long time to obtain them, which is why only a few Guardians own them. This should change starting next week.
When will the quests become easier? Next Tuesday, on September 3, the update 2.5.2.2 will be released. This hotfix is expected to bring several quality-of-life improvements, including changes to the quests for Wendigo and Mountaintop.
The full patch notes are not yet known, but the community manager dmg04 revealed the new quest requirements on reddit after a user kindly requested it.
This is how the Wendigo quest changes
This is what you had to do for Wendigo GL3: This grenade launcher is the Vanguard top weapon of Season 7. To obtain it, you had to grind hard in the strikes:
- Achieve 1,500 kills with grenade launchers
- Land 500 multi-kills with grenade launchers
- Earn 15,000 points (by killing enemies). Dying yourself impedes progress
This will change next week:
- For the upper targets, grenade launcher kills will grant double the progress
- The penalty for dying during the goal of 15,000 points will be removed.
- Grenade launcher multi-kills will grant 50% more progress
- Completing playlist strikes will grant a large amount of progress toward the last goal (15,000 points)
This is how the quest for The Mountaintop changes
This is what you had to do for “The Mountaintop”: The Mountaintop is the Crucible top weapon of Season 5. For PvP-averse players, it was hardly accessible, as they had to spend a lot of time in the Crucible.
- Reach Glory Rank “Brave” in a season
- Earn 750 points with grenade launcher kills in PvP. In normal playlists, a kill gave 3 points, in the competitive playlist, a kill granted 10 points
- Earn 200 points through (at least) double kills. Double plays in normal playlists awarded 2 points each. Additional kills immediately after double plays gave 1 point each. Double plays in the competitive playlist granted 5 points. Further kills immediately after gave 2 points
- Earn “Calculated Trajectory” medals and thereby collect 100 points. A medal in normal playlists rewarded 1 point. Medals in the competitive playlist granted 4 points each
- Reach Glory Rank “Famous” in a season
This will change next week:
- The number of multi-kill points required will be reduced from 200 to 75
- The number of medal points required will be reduced from 100 to 25
- The points you earn in the competitive playlist will be further increased compared to other PvP modes. dmg04 states: “1x for Quickplay, 2x for Iron Banner, 3x for Competitive”
Is the hunt for these weapons worth it? As dmg04 confirmed via Twitter, the grenade launchers will not receive nerfs in Shadowkeep. He specifically mentions that neither The Mountaintop nor Wendigo will be nerfed. Therefore, these two weapons should remain powerful grenade launchers in the future.
