Bungie talked about the content of Year 11 in a short stream. Destiny 2 will kick off a week after The Final Shape with Episode: Echos, but what do Episode: Rebirth and Heresy bring? We will show you now.
What are Episodes? In Destiny 2, there are no more large DLCs after the conclusion of the Light and Darkness saga. Instead, longer seasons, called episodes, are intended to continue the epilogue and show what impact the Witness’s fight has on the solar system.
With Episode: Echos, the first dilemma begins, revolving around the Vex and taking place on the planet Nessus. Two more episodes were still unknown – until now.
Bungie released a short stream on June 10 (via youtube.com), discussing the future of Destiny 2. The stream brought many new contents to light.
Episode: Rebirth turns you into a vampire hunter
What happens in “Rebirth”? In Episode: Rebirth, a villain from Forsaken returns: Fikrul, also known as the Fanatic. He has built a new army of darkness and gained more power with his Echo of the Traveler. For this reason, you will work with the Eliksni to hunt Fikrul as monster hunters.
With new features like the alchemy station, you can brew potions that directly enhance your artifact. Additionally, you can brew more potions that can also influence your loot luck. Bungie aims to give you more decision-making power in the game.
Episode: Heresy sends you to the decaying Tomb Ship
What happens in “Heresy”? In Episode: Heresy, old wounds are reopened, as it goes to Oryx’s Tomb Ship. This ghost ship has been decaying in the rings of Saturn for many years, and now you must play captain. You will traverse portals to the Ship of the Shark King and investigate secrets that are hidden inside.
Furthermore, Bungie is also promoting an unknown activity. Players who loved “Winding” from the Season of Wishes will enjoy the new activity from Episode: Heresy.
What is Project: Frontiers? Lastly, Bungie ended their stream with a small announcement. Project “Frontiers” will launch in 2025. Unfortunately, more is not known about this project. We cannot say whether the codename was chosen randomly or has a specific meaning. We’ve discussed this in our editorial team and suspect that Bungie might want to push its boundaries.
It is possible that Guardians will finally leave the Solar System and explore distant planets with their ships. This would narratively make sense, since the threat of darkness should be contained by then. In the past, Guardians have wondered when it would be time to leave our solar system.
If Bungie dares to take this step, it would be a significant project that would certainly need to be realized with internal updates in the system. The engine that Destiny 2 runs on is outdated and would hinder such an undertaking. An update would therefore be necessary.
