Destiny 2 reveals how the Season of the Chosen wants to engage you. The new roadmap shows which activities and events await you in 2021.
What’s new: Destiny 2 has officially announced the Season of the Chosen. This season starts on February 9, 2021, and aims to keep you busy until May 11. First, guardians were treated to a (as always) spectacular trailer showcasing the new content.
Now Bungie follows up with a roadmap for Season 13. There you will find precise dates for when each activity will go online in the coming months – but a few secrets and gaps in the calendar also exist.
Roadmap for the Season of the Chosen in Destiny 2
This is the official roadmap for Season 13 in English:
MeinMMO presents the roadmap in detail in this article and explains what the entries entail and what else might be coming by May. At the end, there will be an overview of all the content that is completely free for you.
This is what the season start on February 9 looks like
- Battlegrounds: In the seasonal activity, you fight against the Cabal force in groups of 3. Battlegrounds offers an automatic player matchmaking. At launch, you can expect two versions of the activity, “Colossus” and “Hailstone.”
- Strike “The Devil’s Lair”: The well-known Strike from Destiny 1 expands the Cosmodrome and lets you hunt a sublime Servitor.
- Strike “Fallen S.A.B.E.R”: This strike also takes place in the Cosmodrome and comes from Destiny 1. Here you assist Rasputin in taking down the largest Shank.
- The H.E.L.M.: You gain access to the new Vanguard Command Center. Here, you should gather at the strategy table, plan tactics with Zavala, and receive the Trial by Fire hammer. The H.E.L.M. resembles the old Tower, which is currently being rebuilt.
- Stasis Aspect Quest: In Season 13, you will further develop your customizable Stasis Focus. How the quest-line looks or which new fragments and aspects await is currently unknown. However, in the trailer, a Hunter was shown whose super did not create a whirlwind but sent the Kama sickles flying from enemy to enemy (Minute 1:20).
This also goes live: At the start of a new season, you traditionally receive some additional content.
- New Season Pass: In the Season of the Chosen, the season pass is divided into a free and a paid tier. Guardians can find seasonal weapons, armor sets, resources, boosters, glimmer, and plenty of cosmetics.
- Seasonal Artifact: This time, the artifact is called “Bell of Conquest.” You level up this item passively through gameplay and gain access to powerful mods and earn a (bonus) power advantage.
- There are new exotics, like the Jötunn-like Solar bow “Ticuus’s Divination” and also fresh ritual and master weapons.
- The story continues: Season after season, Destiny advances the story, which will culminate at the end of 2021 in the DLC “Witch Queen.” Our victory over the Hive and the Taken from Season 12 now calls forth the Cabal and their leader Caiatl. This lovely lady is the daughter of Emperor Calus and the first female Cabal that players encounter.

This season of the Chosen also brings numerous sandbox changes and adjusts fundamental game mechanics, such as the token system, and introduces a new title system for bragging rights.
What’s still coming in February 2021 to Destiny 2
- Trials of Osiris: The first trials of Osiris will start on February 12. The endgame PvP activity offers a new armor set for Warlocks, Hunters, and Titans – which some guardians want to “grind” for. The Trials also bring new weapons into the loot pool. In the trailer, for example, an iconic Osiris eye was seen on a hand cannon (Minute 1:30).
- Battleground “Cleanse”: On February 16, the seasonal activity will be expanded
- Battleground “Oracle”: February 23 brings the next Battleground addition.
- Iron Banner: Also on February 23, the first Iron Banner event of Season 13 will start. You should impress the Iron Lords with your skills in the Crucible for a week.
What does March bring in Season 13?
- New Strike “Test Site”: From March 23, you will fight against a mobile Cabal fortress in the fresh Strike mission (one-week exclusive access for Season Pass holders)
- Iron Banner: On March 23, the second Iron Banner of the Season will also start
- Strike “Test Site”: From March 30, the Strike will open its doors to Free2Play guardians as well and will be regularly included in the playlist. For one week, you can also enjoy the Nightfall: Trial by Fire variant of the Strike in a harder mode.
April and May remain mysterious: Towards the end of the season, the roadmap looks rather sparse. Players have seen this in previous seasons.
- Guardian Games: The Olympic competition of Destiny 2 returns on April 20. The Guardian vs. Guardian battle ends on May 9.
- Iron Banner: On April 12, the next Iron Banner will also take place in PvP.
- Closing Ceremony: From May 7 to May 9, the Guardian Games will hold a closing ceremony. Hopefully, this will be more grand than last year – the key phrase is Statue Debacle: Titans win Guardian Olympics – The prize is a joke
This is why it was not all for the Season of the Chosen
Traditionally, the roadmap ends with the words “And more…” This refers on one hand to changes not mentioned there, such as the Umbral Engrams or fresh weapons. On the other hand, it promises that still unannounced things will come to the guardians throughout the season.
What else could come? A good example from recent history is the Omen mission of Season 12. It surprised players and hid small hints everywhere before its appearance.
We also know from Bungie itself that an Exotic quest will be coming our way during Season 13:
The buffalo skull in the image probably represents Tex Mechanika. The weapon manufacturer has given us gems like The Last Word, The Huckleberry, or The Chaperone.
A secret story mission or a small event for the season finale is also quite likely, though not guaranteed. At this point, it is still unclear whether Season 12 will transition into the Season of the Chosen with a small film or event – possibly this weekend?
Which content from Season 13 is free?
Many of the contents are freely accessible, whether you buy the season or not. The Season of the Chosen costs 1,000 silver – about 10 €. Alternatively, Season 13 is also included in some variants of Beyond Light.
What do you think of the Season of the Chosen so far? Are you getting Season 13, or are the free contents enough for you? Do you have any ideas about what secrets might be waiting for the guardians – let us know in the comments.
