Selected content creators from Destiny 2 have just received a package from Bungie, which, in addition to some items, also contains a hidden message. What is it all about? Pure PR stunt or is there more to come?
What is the deal with the boxes? As can be seen recently on social media and reddit, some selected individuals have received a mysterious package from Bungie. Among the “lucky ones” is the well-known Destiny YouTuber Rick Kackis, also known as KackisHD. In total, apparently 45 such boxes were given out.
What’s inside? In Kackis’ package, there was a protective case engraved with “29 of 45” as well as the inscription “Season of the Splicer,” which included several other items – including
- a pair of Koss Porta Pro headphones
- a cassette player with a matching audio cassette
- a card with individual scattered letters
- a candelabrum with Destiny logo
- and a UV flashlight
PR stunt or is there more to come?
Not obvious at first glance: According to current knowledge, the cassette only contains the soundtrack of Season 14. However, on the card with the scattered letters, which together form “Splicer”, there is a hidden message. This can be revealed by illuminating the card with the UV lamp.
You can see this in a short video by Rick Kackis:
This is the hidden message: The text of the message refers to the story of the current Season 14, which revolves around freeing humanity’s last city from a Vex simulation. It states:
Show your community that you are ready to dive into this new season by using the following hashtag #SeasonoftheSplicer. We wish you a great journey!”
This is being discussed: On reddit and social media, there is already a lively discussion about this message. Some say it sounds very much like PR and is simply intended by Bungie to draw attention through content creators and to stay in the conversation.
However, some believe that due to the cryptic nature of the message, there could be more behind it. The message is simply too generic to be hidden in this way. And Bungie is known for its sometimes gigantic community riddles. So some think it might just be the beginning and that more is yet to come – possibly at the upcoming reset.
Furthermore, there is speculation about why they would go through the effort of sending the soundtrack on an old-fashioned cassette and why this is happening precisely halfway through the season. If it were a pure PR stunt, it would have made more sense to do it beforehand or at least in the first week of the new season, but not now. Such actions are usually well thought out by Bungie; “just like that” hardly ever happens.
For some, the speculation drives the community to extremes:
Bungie has already achieved one thing with this: it is being discussed, pondered, and talked about. We at MeinMMO will definitely keep an eye on this and report if there is indeed more to it than just a short PR appearance halfway through the season.
What do you all think? Is it a pure PR stunt? Is there more to come? Maybe a new community riddle? Would you be excited about that? Feel free to let us and other readers from MeinMMO know in the comments.
