In Destiny 2 there is a bracelet in the new raid “Root of Nightmares” that reminded players strongly of a vagina. The community affectionately named the item “Bondussy”. After Bungie was pointed out by fans what was dangling in their game in terms of Warlock sleeves, they changed the bracelet silently in a hotfix. But even that is not right for some people.
How did the item come about? Paul Tassi from Forbes explains that in the design of the new raid armor from “Roots of Nightmares” in the Lightfall expansion, two things come together:
- the power of the Traveler that allows organic things to grow
- the rigid pyramid structure
This has led to weapons that seem to have something alive growing on them, and to a “very wild raid armor”.
What did the item look like? The raid bracelet, “Bond of Detestation”, for Warlocks looked as if Guardians were wearing a vagina on their arm.
The community named the item “Bondussy” – a mix of “Bond” for bracelet and “Pussy”, a nickname for vagina.
On Twitter, some people said: Bungie? What is going on? Or they proudly announced: Just looted the Warlock pocket Bondussy.
Bungie closes “mouth” on Warlocks’ arms via hotfix
This was the change: Bungie changed the item in a hotfix. They kept the general shape but closed the mouth.
What is the reaction? On Twitter it didn’t take long for a thread to pop up: “Official petition to un-nerf the Bondussy.” Currently, the action has 3,150 likes.
There is apparently no statement from Bungie yet. What more can they say about it?
Has this happened before? Bungie has indeed changed some items due to their appearance. However, it was usually about items that had “accidentally” some problematic symbolism that reminded of extremist circles.
