Armor 2.0 will be one of the biggest changes for Destiny 2. However, Bungie is excluding Weapons 2.0 and instead wants to focus on further builds.
Where does this new information come from? Luke Smith, Franchise Director of Destiny, spoke during a long interview in the “Cool Friends” talk format about his personal past as well as current changes in Destiny 2. He also addressed why Weapons 2.0 is currently not a topic at Bungie and what they are working on instead.
What is the deal with Weapons 2.0? Bungie is introducing a new armor system with the expansion Shadowkeep. They themselves refer to it as Armor 2.0, as it represents an evolution of the current armor system. The new system should allow Guardians to customize their armor according to their playstyle without having to compromise on aesthetics.
Now, it seemed obvious for some Guardians that Bungie might also plan such a system for the weapons in Destiny 2. However, as Bungie explained, this will unfortunately not happen anytime soon. The reason for this is relatively simple according to Luke Smith.
That’s why Bungie is currently not working on Weapons 2.0
Why will there be no overhaul of the weapon system? Luke Smith already addressed in very long blog posts what changes will come and what the future of Destiny 2 holds for the Guardians.
He now revealed in the interview with “Cool Friends” that there is a part in his blog posts that has not been published. In it, he talks among other things about infusing weapons and the bond that Guardians are supposed to build with their weapons. He also mentions that players should not hope for Weapons 2.0 for now.
According to Smith, the focus is currently on Armor 2.0. They want to concentrate on further developing build crafting – offering more customization options for playstyles. This is currently more important, and therefore Guardians should not hope for Weapons 2.0 for now.
While Guardians wish that certain weapons feel particularly good in certain activities, Smith says. However, Bungie does not hear active demands for a general improvement of the weapon system from the community. The system is currently fine. For this reason, they want to stick to the current weapon system and improve it in some places (but not fundamentally).
What is Armor 2.0? The new armor system is intended to bring more individuality and depth to the game. In the future, you will no longer have to choose between good looks and the effectiveness of your armor; instead, you can combine both.
Each piece of armor can be equipped with mods starting from the release of Shadowkeep, which will grant you bonuses. There will also be new stats that offer additional possibilities for combining mods and bonuses. The appearance can additionally be adjusted with universal ornaments.
This way, one can assemble various builds and adjust them to their playstyle or specific tasks. In the future, they want to expand this system to give build crafting more depth, thus creating even more possibilities for players instead of crafting Weapons 2.0.
Do you wish for Weapons 2.0 for Destiny 2, or are you satisfied with the current system?
