In Destiny 2 the promised reward for “Veterans” finally arrives next week. However, some of the most loyal players find what Bungie is doing quite ridiculous. How Bungie uses the term “Veteran” here is displeasing to long-time players.
This is what happened: Bungie announced in “This week at Bungie” that with the next patch on Tuesday, it will be the time: Players will receive a Veteran reward, the “Hunt Veterans” package (engl. Veterans of the Hunt Bundle).
This is included in the package: The package contains a handful of cosmetic rewards. These are as follows:
- Two exotic emotes
- Fireteam Medallions
- Unique shaders
- And unique emblems
Why are there these Veteran rewards? This is because Bungie decided in October that the two DLCs “Curse of Osiris” and “Warmind” no longer need to be purchased separately, but are part of the “Forsaken Bundle”.
As compensation for Guardians who unnecessarily spent money to buy the two DLCs before Forsaken, this Veteran package was conceived, which for some reason took 2 months to materialize.
Who gets the package? Everyone who played Forsaken before October 10, 2018, will receive it. Players are expected to receive the package after the patch goes live on Tuesday, December 18. At some point in the course of the evening.
Why this is frustrating for some Guardians: Some players who have been playing Destiny for years are upset that Bungie refers to people as “Veterans” who have been playing for less than 3 months.
Many Guardians who have been playing Destiny since 2014 wish that their time in the game would be more honored and that they would be marked as veterans in Destiny 2.
They were only provided with some rewards in 2017.

- User jakob says: “So you get a veteran package,” if you played Destiny 2 before October 16, 2018? That alone annoys me again. I can’t understand Bungie. I only consider day-one players or Destiny 1 players as veterans, but oh well.”
- User vvV AmNesiaA Vvv says: “I find the term veteran rewards totally misplaced in this case, given the qualification criteria. In the end, it should rather be called pain compensation rewards.
However, some veterans express themselves quite kindly or simply misappropriate the items.
- User KingK claims the emblem for himself: “My Titan is so severely branded with the veteran emblem that he can never take it off again. And I forbid everyone else to use it. Especially the Hunters.”
- Ace Ffm adds: “For the veteran package, I’m happy to interrupt my current Destiny break and will promptly appear at the Tower next Tuesday. I’ve been looking forward to it for too long. The color scheme is just my taste.”
What’s behind this: It’s a minor issue and surely there is no malicious intent behind Bungie. But it also shows that for some players it’s important how much time they have spent with Destiny.
They see themselves as “the true veterans” and are proud of this title.
Many veterans of Destiny 1 wish that their time fighting Atheon, Crota, Oryx, and the hours in the Trials of Osiris would have any impact on Destiny 2.
Many feel that the transition from part 1 to 2 was not handled very adeptly by Bungie. Day-one players expect something different under “veteran reward”.
