In Destiny 2, the coolest loot is often hidden in the cash shop instead of behind the toughest challenges in the game. The balance just isn’t right. However, Bungie has now introduced adjustments for the Eververse and rewards from various activities that are meant to change that.
Bungie is currently conducting an information offensive. The Destiny developer is thoroughly addressing current community criticism every week and presenting solution strategies. This week’s topics: loot, rewards, and the Eververse.
In the TWaB (via Bungie) from May 7, Luke Smith, the head of the Destiny franchise, addressed the imbalance of rewards in the game: “There aren’t enough pursuits in the world. We will change that.”
Away from the Eververse, towards earnable rewards
Many players currently complain that the coolest items are only available from the cash shop, the Eververse. That is set to change soon. By purely playing Destiny 2, players will finally be able to earn cool, elaborately designed items through challenging activities.
Changes for challenging activities: In Destiny 2, raids, trials, and dungeons are part of the “aspirational content.” These so-called aspirational activities will receive new loot:
- Raids, trials, and dungeons will drop cosmetic (thematically inspired) and powerful items in the future
- Every new aspirational activity will be designed with at least one new accessory to pursue
- Destiny’s next raid will feature brand new armor, weapons, and exotic accessories
- Adept weapons for the Trials of Osiris are coming
- New weapons and armor (no reworked reskins) in the trials starting in Season 13
- Every year there will be new Trials gear
- Every season will have a challenging armor pursuit – This armor will not be available through the Eververse or the Season Pass
With these adjustments, players who prove themselves in the toughest challenges of Destiny 2 will also have something to show off and be proud of. The armor planned for the Eververse from Season 11 (summer 2020) will, for example, be part of the challenging armor pursuit.
This is how the Eververse is set to change:
- Starting in Season 12 (autumn 2020), there will no longer be ships, ghost shells, sparrows, or armor ornaments in the Eververse that visibly relate to aspirational activities
- Legendary weapon ornaments will no longer be sold in the Eververse
- More opportunities to earn Glimmer (earnable Eververse currency) will be introduced
- Glimmer rewards will trend towards account-wide rewards. This way, players with only one character will not be at a disadvantage
- Glimmer engrams from the Season Pass will soon contain Year 3 items that were previously available for Silver or Glimmer from the Eververse
The adjustments to the cash shop, which has been criticized by many players, are likely to make many Guardian hearts beat faster. Recently, MeinMMO author Sven Galitzki has addressed these very topics:
Strikes, Crucible and Gambit receive new loot
These loot adjustments are coming for core activities: Whether you are a fan of PvP, PvE, or PvEvP – you can look forward to this new loot:
- Starting in Season 12, there will be a new quest weapon every season (comparable to the ritual or pinnacle weapon system)
- This weapon can be earned by playing your favorite core playlist.
- It will have activity-specific legendary skins that can be unlocked in each playlist.
- New armor sets for strikes, crucible, and gambit will be released with each major annual expansion
- The gear will be designed and shaded in accordance with the corresponding activities

Interestingly, the new “quest weapons” will likely be earnable through all activities and can be customized with special skins. These powerful weapons are a carrot in front of the nose for many Guardians, who can chase them and are painfully missed at the start of Season 10. New loot from core activities is a constant wish of the community.
What do you think of the changes? Do the toughest activities of Destiny 2 pay off for you again and are you diving into battle for cool cosmetics and items? Friends of cool aesthetics will be especially happy with the newly announced transmog feature for armor.
