In Destiny 2, you can also easily obtain the first hidden raid chest solo in the Deep Stone Crypt even after Patch 3.0.2. MeinMMO shows how to permanently activate “Refuge from the Storm” now.
This is what happened: On January 19, the Patch 3.0.2 for Destiny 2 was released. It brought many improvements and also a requested Hunter nerf. However, it also removed the ability to permanently protect yourself in the Deep Stone Crypt from “Refuge from the Storm” through an exploit.
This hit many players hard, as it significantly makes obtaining the valuable first solo chest in the raid much harder.
However, after about a day, clever Guardians have already discovered a new method that bypasses the Frostbite debuff and essentially works like the original cheese.
Get the chest from the Deep Stone Crypt raid easily solo without Frostbite
Here’s how it works after Patch 3.0.2: Go into the Deep Stone Crypt raid on Europa as normal and start the activity. Defeat all adds and the 2 Fallen Captains in the first area to open the large door.
Then take the short path to the airlock where you will see the 6 Fallen Gliders (mosquitoes).
Now it gets interesting:
- Slowly drive your Sparrow to the 2nd door in the airlock until it opens.
- Position the Sparrow so that you drive slowly through the airlock and come to a stop directly behind the airlock at the gliders.
- The Sparrow should be facing left – that way you will drop back into the airlock.
- Get off quickly now (you are now in the airlock, but your Sparrow is in the open snow area).
- As soon as the airlock opens again, get back on your Sparrow.
The whole process takes 10 seconds, and you’ll be immune to the annoying frostbite debuff and enjoy permanent “Refuge from the Storm.”.
The whole thing needs to be done quickly. Otherwise, the airlock gate will close, and you won’t be able to get through. Otherwise, pack a rocket launcher and launch yourself into the air for another attempt.
We tested this method ourselves at MeinMMO, and it worked perfectly on the 2nd attempt (January 21, 2021, at around 8 AM)
Tip: To make the cheese as easy as possible, choose a small Sparrow. It bumps less against the passage. So rummage through your collection (under Equipment, you will find Sparrows).

Please note: Once you have your frostbite protection, you should be very careful. Because you can no longer easily regain immunity from the cold as before the patch.
Alternatively, just dismount from the Sparrow and make the way on foot – you will remain immune the entire way without your vehicle. It takes a bit longer, but it is much safer, as you won’t accidentally rush too quickly over a glacier crack and plummet into the abyss.

This is why it’s so good: The cheese was very popular and was used by both teams and solo players. With the newly found method, you can now easily secure the first hidden chest without raid experience.
- Here you can obtain conquest loot once a week per character (10 pieces).
- With this, you can buy rare raid weapons like Anarchy or Tarrabah at the Exotic kiosk in the Tower.
- Once you complete the raid, you can buy additional raid drops with random rolls using the conquest loot.
- Teams use the exploit to shorten the pre-phase and start directly in the actual fight.
