Just before the release of the Warmind expansion for Destiny 2, a weapon is causing intense discussions within the community. The curious thing is – the weapon doesn’t even exist yet. Why are fans debating?
What’s it about? Recently, Bungie presented some new features of the upcoming second DLC in a live stream. This also included a redesign of the Crucible, which is set to receive a long-awaited ranking system starting on May 8.

As part of the associated rewards, players will have the opportunity to earn a special weapon – the Redrix’s Claymore pulse rifle. It is this very weapon that has become a point of contention. Even before its arrival, it is being intensely discussed on Reddit and in various forums.
The Redrix’s Claymore is at the center of a controversy
What is the Redrix’s Claymore? It is a legendary pulse rifle that possesses the unique perk “Desperado.” This increases the weapon’s rate of fire after reloading while the other perk “Outlaw” is active.
This pulse rifle is capable of firing like a rapid-firing pulse rifle for 7 seconds while still maintaining the damage of a high-impact rifle.

Particularly in PvE, the weapon is likely to perform very strongly with its perks, making it highly sought after already.
What makes the weapon so controversial? While new items will be available as rewards in both PvP rankings in the future, the Redrix’s Claymore is reserved only for the competitive playlist and thus the Glory ranking. To obtain the weapon, Guardians will need to reach the fourth of a total of six ranks in the Glory ranking in the upcoming Season 3.
To obtain this weapon, one must be skilled and, above all, victorious in PvP. Because only victories in the competitive playlist help towards the necessary Glory rank. Furthermore, one will generally need to invest a considerable amount of time in the competitive part of the Crucible to reach the fourth rank.
The time when loot was freely available is coming to an end – this is intentional. Many players, especially fans who see Destiny as their hobby, are excited about this upcoming feature. This is exactly what large parts of the community have been asking for.

However, this very aspect seems to be a significant problem for some. It is already clear that the weapon is hard to obtain, and most Guardians will never manage to acquire the Redrix’s Claymore due to the requirements. Parts of the fan base are disappointed and upset about this.
This is what the community thinks about the Redrix’s Claymore
Pros: Most fans consider the Redrix’s Claymore and the accompanying requirements as a significant step in the right direction. Finally, loot is not handed to players, and they must perform extraordinary feats to obtain exceptional gear.

And that is exactly what large parts of the community have wished for: Attractive loot that can only be attained through skill, dedication, time, and hard work. This reward system finally offers many fans the long-awaited opportunity to stand out from the crowd and be recognized for their in-game achievements.
Cons: However, there are also many critical voices. The criticism is particularly loud from solo players and Guardians with limited time.
Many solo players feel unable to compete in competitive PvP with organized teams. They fear that the number of coordinated teams will rise, thus increasing the demand in the Crucible. As only victories are decisive for reaching the next higher rank, they feel they are at a significant disadvantage. Some even call for alternative ways for solo players to obtain the attractive reward.
Additionally, players who can only invest little time in Destiny 2 due to work, family, or other commitments feel abandoned. Since the time invested is a significant criteria on the way to the Redrix’s Claymore, many see their chances of obtaining the coveted reward effectively eliminated from the start.

However, some PvE players are also complaining about this weapon. Its perks clearly cater to PvE but are only obtainable through PvP. PvE enthusiasts interested in the weapon now feel forced into something they actually do not want. Furthermore, there is currently a lack of adequate PvE equivalents for such a reward system.
Insiders attempt to soothe: Some insider participants of community summits, who know more about the future of Destiny 2, are trying to calm PvE players. This reward system is partly related to the upcoming seasonal vendor progress that will be introduced with the Warmind expansion.
They can and must say nothing further. However, just because it is now known that there is such a high-caliber reward in PvP, it does not mean that PvE will also receive something similar, says YouTuber MesaSean.
Whether this is merely a rhetorical argument or an actual subtle hint will likely only be revealed with the release of DLC II. However, it would not be far-fetched to have a corresponding reward and ranking system for PvE as well.
What do you think about this? Are you excited to finally work towards something challenging? Or should weapons of such caliber be available to all Guardians or obtainable through alternative means?
