Today, a new update is scheduled for Destiny 2. However, a fix that many players were hoping for is apparently not included. Bungie apparently needs more time to resolve the issues with the broken quest “The Lie”.
New update coming today: A new update for Destiny 2 – Hotfix 2.8.1.2 is being released today. This patch is supposed to fix some annoying issues in the game, such as 2 faulty armor Exotics.
However, an acute bug, for which players are hoping for a quick solution, seems to remain untouched.
What were players hoping for in this update? Currently, many players are waiting for a fix for the broken new quest “The Lie”.
This quest unexpectedly went online last week. After the quest started somewhat awkwardly and hardly anyone wanted to play it, “The Lie” was nerfed by Bungie, but soon after, an annoying bug thwarted the Guardians’ plans and prevented progress.
As a result, no one is currently able to tackle the final step of the quest and complete it. Also, the reward, the iconic shotgun Felwinter’s Lie from Destiny 1, has not yet been claimed by anyone. And as it looks, that will remain the case for now.
What does Bungie say about the fix for “The Lie”? This fix will not be part of today’s update, Bungie has stated multiple times in response to inquiries.
The community manager dmg04 emphasized this on Twitter, after already apologizing on Reddit for the current situation with the bugged quest. Regarding today’s update 2.8.1.2, it was stated: “Again, this [today’s update] has nothing to do with ‘The Lie’.”
The patch today will address some other sandbox bugs and has been in the works for quite some time.
Previously, it was mentioned that the team had identified the problem and was working on potential solutions. However, these need to be tested and verified first. Additionally, the fixes still need to be certified by Sony and Microsoft. This could take some time.
When could the fix come? dmg04 did not reveal when a solution can be expected. However, it seems that there won’t be anything this week.
If we assume that Bungie apparently still needs to test the fixes themselves and that these also need to be certified, which could also take several days, then a timely solution to the problem seems unlikely.
Many players believe that the fix will not be released until at least next week.
Bungie apologizes: On Reddit, dmg04 apologized in a thread about the quest “The Lie” for the current situation and thanked the community for their efforts so far in the quest.
Such mistakes are frustrating – period. The employees at Bungie feel hurt when they see such things go live. And they are working on improving in these areas – but sometimes things just go wrong.
The interesting part: dmg noted that Bungie apparently has problems reproducing the bug internally – and this despite the fact that apparently all Guardians on the live servers are affected.
Sometimes it’s the tools, sometimes the timeline, and sometimes things that just weren’t considered in the limited development time.
What do the players say? Many are disappointed and angry. The quest itself was not well received by many Guardians due to its grind-heavy design. The fact that it is now crowned by a bug instead of the highly anticipated shotgun does not contribute to a better mood. Additionally, many are wondering why Bungie seems to have trouble reproducing the bug when the entire Guardian community is suffering from it.
Others emphasize that criticism should not be overdone. Yes, it is annoying that this happened. But such things happen even in other games. And with all the restrictions due to Corona, it is not always easy to respond quickly to such matters. It might be better to get a solution that takes a bit longer but does not lead to further problems, rather than a quick fix that results in other issues.
