Once again, a weapon in Destiny 2 works differently than originally intended by the developers. However, it is the first time that Bungie has taken such drastic measures – A glitch forces the studio to completely disable the exotic pistol Rat King in Destiny 2.

What happened? Before the release of the Warmind expansion, hardly anyone had the Rat King on their radar. Due to its rework and a glitch, the weapon is now in the spotlight and causing quite a stir. It has been temporarily disabled by the developers.
What makes this special? Previously, concerns like the Prometheus Lens were simply nerfed to potentially adjust them later, but this is different for the Rat King. Bungie felt compelled for the first time in Destiny’s history to completely disable a weapon. So, if you were wondering why your Rat King isn’t working, you now have the answer.
UPDATE: A hotfix is planned for Tuesday, May 15, 2018, to address the issues with the Rat King.
The Rat King is disabled until further notice
Why such a drastic step? Due to the glitch, players were able to use the Rat King to charge their power ammo reserves beyond the intended capacity of their respective weapons. A rocket launcher with 11 rockets? Thanks to the Rat King, no problem. Or rather, a big problem.
Apparently, the rework of the Rat King in the context of the Warmind DLC is responsible for this glitch. Just before the launch of the new raid section on Friday, May 11, Bungie saw no better way in the remaining time. This is highlighted by a tweet from Community Manager DeeJ.
As soon as the new raid section opens its doors, many players will compete for the World First raid clear. Therefore, Bungie had three alternatives to choose from:
- Temporarily remove a broken weapon
- Delay the launch of the new raid section
- Allow exploits in the race for the fastest raid completion
According to DeeJ, Bungie has chosen the option that is best for players in the long run. When to expect the return of the Rat King is currently unknown. Until further notice, the weapon remains disabled. The new raid passage will start as planned.
What do you think of this step? Did Bungie respond correctly?
