In Destiny 2, baking rewards you with gifts and event weapons. However, you will need a lot of Dawning Essences. MeinMMO tells you where to get them quickly.
What do I need Dawning Essence for? In Destiny 2, Christmas traditionally revolves around baking and giving cookies. To properly fuel your Festive Oven 2.0 during the 2020 Winter Event, you will definitely need Dawning Essences.
Only those who generously share their homemade treats throughout the system will be rewarded with gifts from the numerous NPCs in Destiny.

That’s why baking is worth it: In the gifts, you will find upgrade materials, resources, and Glimmer. There is also Dawning Spirit, which you need for the Community Challenge 2020 and for your personal Christmas quest from Eva Levante – during which you pimp your exotic ship. There is also something for Triumph Hunters.
Additionally, there are 3 event-exclusive weapons in the gifts. Included are the two guns from 2018 and 2019 with new rolls, as well as a brand new weapon: the fusion rifle “Glacioclasm”.
How to get the important Dawning Essences in 2020
Do you want to bake as quickly and as much as possible to pile up lots of gifts to unwrap? Especially at the beginning of the event, there is a shortage of Dawning Essence on the account. And every recipe requires the essences.
Where do you find essences? Throughout the 3-week celebrations, you can collect essences simply by completing various activities. Upon completion, these will go into your inventory – but that takes time.
This is how many Dawning Essences you get for completing an activity:
- Strikes: 20-25
- Legendary Lost Sectors: 15-17
- Woken Hunts: 10-15
- Dungeons: 9
- Crucible Match: 10-15
- Strikes: 5-15
- Public Events: 1-5
- Patrols: 1
Farming Dawning Essences in Destiny 2
If you do not want to wait, there are also options to quickly farm Dawning Essences. We show you ways for solo players and team players.
This is what solo Guardians should do: Even without a fireteam, you can easily and quickly complete the Woken Hunts from Season 12. Thanks to the latest update for the Cryptolith Lure, you can now store up to 5 charges and go hunting multiple times. In just a few minutes, a hunt is finished and you are richer by 10-15 essences.

Alternatively, assuming a high power level and good gear, you can farm the Legendary Lost Sectors alone. Here you can farm 15-17 essences per run and even the new exotics from Beyond Light.
This is how to do it faster in a team: With one or two Guardians in the fireteam, the Legendary Lost Sectors at 1,250 go really fast. While you won’t have a chance at exotics, you can secure a charge of essences in 1-2 minutes.
- Immediately break the activity as soon as they drop to save a few seconds before starting again.
- Prepare for champions and equip some artifact mods or, for example, the exotic sword The Lament – this makes runs no problem.
Alternatively, start a Woken Hunt as a team.
- It is important that the host who starts the hunt with their lure does not defeat the target.
- Thus, you can leave the hunt afterwards, restart it, and the whole team will receive essences each time, without having to recharge the lure or search for the wounded target first.
- A player has no problems against the boss alone
However, quickly farming Dawning Essences is only half the job. Clever Guardians also significantly reduce their essence consumption.
Upgrade the Festive Oven to Masterwork and Save a Lot
As already mentioned, each baking process consumes your precious Dawning Essences. However, you can significantly reduce the costs involved.
- You need to upgrade your oven to Masterwork.
- Then a batch of fresh cookies costs only 10 Dawning Essences instead of the regular 15.
- To obtain a Masterwork oven, you must have baked each of the 21 recipes for the Dawning event 2020 at least once.
- If you have been diligent in the past years, your oven remembers the recipes.
This is how you should proceed: So first bake each recipe at least once. That way, you’ll quickly have the Masterwork oven. Then it’s enough to bake only the sweets you have the most ingredients for, or those that fit your playstyle.
If you like to swing your Solar sword The Lament and thrash Cabal, you’ll quickly gather “Sharp Flavor”, “Unbelievable Heat”, and “Cabal Oil”. This way you can bake delicious vanilla swords for Lord Shaxx on repeat. From his gifts, you will then draw the event weapons and resources.
