In Destiny 2, there is a concerted effort to make the mysterious merchant Xur interesting for players again. A feature for the spaghetti-faced character was promised for Season 6, but is now expected to actually come into the game with the Season of Opulence: Random rolls for armor pieces.
This was promised: With the start of Season 6, the Season of the Vagabond, the old snake-faced Xur was to be made interesting for players again. With Update 2.2.1/1.34, the Nine’s merchant was supposed to bring the following innovations:
- Fate Engrams should have a chance at Forsaken Exotics
- Armors in Xur’s inventory should have random perks
- Xur offered players the bounties for the Invitations of the Nine
While everything is in order with the Fate Engrams and the Invitations, Xur, however, did not receive the memo about random rolls. The armors still had fixed perks, much to the dismay of players who repeatedly pointed out this fact.
When will random rolls come? Shortly after the release of Season 6, Bungie could not yet foresee when Xur’s inventory will be fixed. At the beginning of May, however, community manager dmg04 announced that the mysterious merchant will finally have random rolls on armor pieces with the Season of Opulence, which starts on June 4. So this time for real.
Whether Xur will actually stick to the plan, players will likely see only next Friday.
What is Xur’s problem? The merchant Xur has become increasingly unattractive for many Destiny 2 players. Especially the first major expansion Forsaken dealt a blow to the snake-faced character.
Although the exotic drops have become rarer with Forsaken, it unfortunately did not make Xur more interesting. The merchant had been offering only items from Year 1 of Destiny 2 for a long time. However, many players couldn’t use the armors and weapons anymore, as they already owned them.
