Destiny 2 is soon celebrating spring – with a brand new event, the Guardian Games. We explain how this competition of Guardian classes works and what rewards await you.
What are the Guardian Games about? Even in 2020, there is a spring event in Destiny 2, but it’s very different from last year.
This time, with the so-called Guardian Games, there is a kind of Olympic competition between the three Guardian classes. Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks want to prove who among them is the most dedicated Guardian representative and superior to the other classes.
The winning class will be honored with a commemorative statue, which will be visible next to Zavala in the Tower for the rest of the year.
Bungie has already given a first glimpse of the Guardian Games in a trailer:
The Guardian Games 2020 – What’s in the new event
When exactly does the new spring event take place? The Guardian Games begin with the weekly reset at 7:00 PM on April 21. The spring event will then run for 3 weeks until the weekly reset on May 12.
Where does the event start? The Guardian Games start with a visit to Eva Levante in the Tower. There you will find everything necessary for the event, such as a class item that not only looks nice but is also required for participation.
Who can participate? All players can participate in the Guardian Games, regardless of optional content for Destiny 2 – including those with the Free-to-Play version Destiny 2: New Light. However, you must have a power level of at least 770.
This is how the event works
This is what to expect at the Guardian Games: Once you have equipped your class item, you can visit Eva and Zavala in the Tower to take on medal quests and daily class challenges.
Each day there will be bronze, silver, and gold medals to earn, focusing on specific game modes. Once you complete them, you can redeem them at the Tower podium. This way, you earn points daily for your class.
This is how you complete medals: To complete the medals, you have to collect laurels during the Guardian Games. These are dropped by other Guardians on the battlefield in all activities. Exceptions are Gambit and the Crucible, where the laurels are awarded after the match ends.
The standings will be tracked live: The interim standings of the Guardian Games can be viewed at the podium in the Tower. The class flags will be updated throughout the day to indicate which team is currently leading.
The first place will also be represented in gold, the second in silver, and the third in bronze. Additionally, there will be a calendar showing the respective winning class for each day throughout the spring event.
The event class items of the Guardians will also change their colors daily (gold, silver, bronze) to further illustrate their current ranking.
Is there a new event activity? No. There won’t be a specific event activity like the Verdansk during the Crucible in 2019.
What you should also note during the Guardian Games:
- You must wear your event class item to make progress in the Guardian Games loot pulls.
- Eva’s daily reward packages are only available to Guardians who participated in the games on that day (having submitted at least one medal at the podium). The packages cannot be stacked. There is only ever one package at a time.
- The laurels in Gambit and PvP are not dropped by other Guardians, but are awarded directly at the end of matches.
- Abandoned laurels do not go to the Postmaster. They must be collected.
These are the event rewards
In addition to Eva’s daily reward packages, the event-specific class items, a new weapon exotic, and new exotic ghosts are waiting for you.
Some of the event items will change between bronze, silver, and gold depending on your class’s ranking. When the Guardian Games end, the metallic appearance of your item will remain … for the rest of the year.
Special class items: These will be obtained at the start of the event. The class items will be updated daily to reflect your class’s daily ranking in gold, silver, or bronze.
At the end of the Guardian Games, the daily rankings will be combined into a final score. Depending on that, the class items will retain their color for the rest of the year based on your ranking.
New weapon exotic: As part of the event, a new exotic machine gun will be available – the Heir Apparent. This weapon exotic has been leaked a while ago, here’s what we know: Leaked secret weapon exotic from Season 10 – Here’s what this new MG can do
However, how to get the new Exo MG is still not clear.
Special exotic ghost shells: Eva Levante will offer a quest each week through which you can earn an exotic ghost shell – corresponding to one of the 3 Guardian classes. If you want to have all 3 event ghost shells, you’ll need to complete all 3 quests. Bungie has not yet revealed what the quests entail.
New Eververse content: The in-game shop Eververse will be equipped with all sorts of new, themed items such as new gestures or universal ornaments, in line with the Guardian Games. There will also be two new ships and sparrows.
Almost everything can be purchased during the event with Glimmer, the in-game currency. Only one single finisher will be available exclusively for Silver (real money currency).
By the way: All weekly and repeatable “Guardian Games” bounties will also grant Glimmer, among other rewards.
What do you think of the new spring event? Are you joining the Guardian Games? Or are you completely indifferent? By the way, next season could already see a fight against the Darkness: Destiny 2: A major threat comes faster than expected – Already next season?
