In Destiny 2, the Season of Dawn is starting soon. Many Guardians are wondering if the maximum power level will increase with the start of Season 9 – this was not really clear even in the presentation stream. Now Bungie has responded.
What’s the deal with the power level increase? From season to season, the level cap in Destiny 2 has almost traditionally increased, meaning the maximum power level for Guardians – usually by 50 levels.
Therefore, it is always essential to properly level up your character before tackling the most challenging activities.
With the release of Shadowkeep and the Free-to-Play version Destiny 2: New Light, the power level was recently significantly raised. Right at the start of the accompanying Season 8, the starting power level for all Guardians was increased to 750, which was the level cap of Season 7. The max power level at that time was 960. This jump was therefore enormous.
Moreover, one could only progress in levels with the seasonal artifact. However, these levels will be reset at the start of Season 9. Then there will be a new artifact, the Lantern of Osiris, to level up. But what about the power level increase in the Season of Dawn?
Therefore, many Guardians are currently puzzled: Many Guardians probably assumed that the power level would also rise with Season 9. However, Bungie had not released any information about this until recently, causing the first Guardians to become nervous.
When the reveal stream for Season 9 came, this topic was still not addressed. The fact that the Guardians shown by Bungie were all at power level 960 added to the uncertainty of some players.
Many were asking – will there even be a power level increase? Or is the focus now on the seasonal artifact and seasonal level progression?
This is what Bungie says: Although Bungie took some time, after the stream the studio finally provided clarity after numerous inquiries (including from Destiny celebrities).
As Community Manager dmg04 initially responded to the well-known Destiny streamer King Gothalion on Twitter, the power level will definitely increase in Season 9.
In the current “This Week at Bungie” blog from December 5, the studio finally revealed concrete details:
- The powerful cap increases in Season 9 from power level 950 to power level 960
- The new pinnacle cap will be at 970 – thus also raised by 10 power levels (from 960 in Season 8)
