Due to fan criticism following the launch of Destiny 2, Bungie implemented changes that guaranteed each killed yellow-bar enemy would drop power ammo. Following the Warmind expansion, drops have reportedly decreased significantly according to player reports. Has the drop rate been secretly nerfed?
Power ammo has been a point of criticism before: After the release of Destiny 2, there were intense discussions regarding power ammo. In the eyes of many players, there simply wasn’t enough, so they mostly played with kinetic or energy weapons – even against elite enemies and bosses.
Once power ammo was depleted, there were hardly any chances to replenish it during a strike or mission. Boss fights then became excessively long and boring. The feeling of being a powerful Guardian with remarkable weapons just wouldn’t materialize. This left many players bitter.
Bungie fixed it: To combat this issue, the studio made a small but significant adjustment. Now each killed yellow-bar enemy guarantees a power ammo drop. This change was very well received by players, making them feel a bit more powerful again.
Secret Nerf or Bug?
Less power ammo after Warmind: However, since the launch of the Warmind expansion, it seems that Bungie or a bug has altered the drop rate of power ammo. Numerous players have been complaining about noticeably less power ammo since the launch of the Warmind DLC.
The introduction of modifiers in heroic strikes has further highlighted this issue in the eyes of some fans. Even with an active heavyweight modifier designed to increase damage with power weapons but also guarantee more power ammo drops, many players report receiving noticeably less power ammo. Often, it only drops after multiple yellow-bar kills, sometimes only three or four times throughout an entire strike.
No response from Bungie yet: The developers have not yet issued a statement on this matter. Such changes have not been officially discussed or mentioned in the patch notes of previous updates.
Since the release of the second DLC, Destiny 2 has been increasingly plagued by bugs. It is therefore quite possible that this issue is also an unintended error in the game mechanics. However, fans also consider a secret nerf to be plausible. After all, this wouldn’t be the first time that Bungie has implemented hidden mechanics behind the players’ backs.
