In a new blog post, the developers of Destiny 2 announced that the next DLC “The Witch Queen” will be postponed to 2022. So you will have to make do with Beyond Light for a while – but it will receive some new content.
What is happening with the new DLC? The Witch Queen was originally supposed to be released in the fall of 2021. However, the developers have announced that the new DLC will not be released until spring 2022.
The story of The Witch Queen was meant to bridge the gap between the story of the previous expansion Beyond Light and the upcoming expansion Lightfall.
However, since the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing and the studio wants to prioritize the health of its employees, the developers have decided to postpone the new DLC. According to Bungie, more information will follow in the summer.
Beyond Light was postponed and had a bumpy but successful launch. How The Witch Queen will perform upon release remains to be seen. In any case, there are supposed to be plenty of new features for Destiny 2 throughout 2021.

What will the next seasons bring? In the blog post, the developers talk about several new features that are expected to be released in the upcoming updates and seasons. These appear to be primarily aimed at active players:
- From Season 14 onwards, there will be no more caps for infusing weapons and armor that did not already reach the cap in Season 13. This way, you can take your favorite legendary weapons and armor into the raid of The Witch Queen.
- Also, the power cap will only be raised by 10 points for each season that does not coincide with an expansion. From Season 12 to 13, it increases by 50 levels.
- There will be adjustments for Stasis and Light subclasses in PvP for better balancing.
- The Vault of Glass will return with Season 14 along with a Master version. More information will follow soon.
- Ikora Rey is expected to play a more significant role and not just be “there”.
- Season 15 will introduce Crossplay – PC players will only compete against consoles in PvP if they invite console players to their party.
- Also in Season 15, the first legendary energy and power weapons with the Stasis element will be introduced.

What happens next? After The Witch Queen, Lightfall is expected to be released, but there is also a new plan for this. Instead of bringing the ongoing story to an end here, there will be more following Lightfall. Another, yet unannounced chapter will continue the story after Lightfall.
Many players have certainly been looking forward to The Witch Queen but will now have to wait a little longer. In the meantime, the current and upcoming content of Destiny 2 provides an opportunity to prepare for what’s coming.
