In Destiny 2, working with other Guardians is currently problematic because they are censored and joining is impossible. Bungie talks about the solution, further fixes, and a smaller Tower.
This is the problem: Many Guardians are currently complaining that their friends or clan members are “blacked out.” The emblem is completely black, the power level is 0, and joining is impossible. The name “blacked out” has thus become established in the community for the issue, meaning censored or just blacked out.
Since the start of Season 10, this problem has been increasingly observed in the wild and significantly hampers teamwork. It’s frustrating because Destiny 2 heavily relies on the social component.
Both on Reddit and in the Bungie Forum, the topic is a continuous hot topic. Even here on MeinMMO, you have expressed your opinions under various posts about this annoying problem, for example:
And where is the fix that players who log into Destiny after me are displayed with PL 0 and a black emblem? This prevents me from joining those players.

This is what Bungie says about the solution: In the TWAB from April 16, Bungie announced the solution: “Friends listed in a player’s overview should no longer be displayed with black nameplates and 0 power.”
So far, usually only re-logging into Destiny 2 helped – but even that is not guaranteed. The official fix is set to come on April 21 with a new update. Additionally, update 2.8.1 will also include:
Smaller Tower and other resolved issues
Has the Tower become smaller? Yes, Bungie recently lowered the maximum number of simultaneous Guardians in a Tower instance to 12. Previously, up to 26 players had space in Destiny’s Social Space.
The reason is that the BEETLE error increasingly occurs with 13 or more simultaneous Guardians in the Tower. Through the participant limitation, the number of error codes has been significantly reduced, Bungie states on Twitter:
Meanwhile, numerous players report that the lower number of Guardians has also shortened loading times in the Tower.
These issues will be resolved for the Guardian Games: In the TWAB, Bungie listed further issues that are finally set to become a thing of the past with the update on April 21:
- “Shroud of Dawn” will now properly generate Orbs of Light.
- Fully upgrading any bunker will now unlock the associated “Warmind Security” triumph.
- Interacting with Sjur Eido’s statue for the “Wisher” quest in “The Shattered Throne” will no longer cause crashes.
- The level 32 LAS upgrade can now be used by any character to clear the bunker.
- Rasputin’s daily Seraph weapon can now be obtained by any character.
- For players who have completed the Forsaken campaign, the “The Lawless Frontier” lore book entry will be completed and available for pickup.
Are you excited to finally be able to play Destiny 2 with your friends without any issues?
