If there is one reason to play the Halloween event of Destiny 2 this year, it is this honking mask. The Honk Moon mask is currently the hit in the game. Everyone wants to be a legendary honk – but just honking isn’t possible.
The Halloween event in Destiny 2 has started this week. During the Festival of the Lost, players can, as always, grab candy, new weapons, armor, and of course many spooky cosmetics. This year, it is a “gans” special mask that, thanks to its ridiculous appearance and clever wordplay, everyone wants.
Why is the community celebrating “Honk Moon”?: Originally, “Honk Moon” was intended as a joke. But as so often happens, the funniest things occur while playing Destiny 2 with friends or interacting with the community.
Such was the case with players UrbanMarshmallow and TheMidgetG0d, the initiators of this grand joke. UrbanMarshmallow illustrated the “Honk Moon” and commented: “To the guy who suggested “Honk Moon”… please never suggest anything like that again!”
Fan-Honkin-tastic!
The community loves the brilliant weapon ornament, and player Monkeybiziu even said: “I would lose every game with Honkmoon because I would die laughing when I hear the last HOOOOOOOOONK.”
Falconmoon death blows and precision hits grant “Paracausal Charge” stacks. The last round in the magazine deals bonus damage based on the number of stacks. To appreciate how strong this shot is, players have added a loud honk to this special shot with the “Honkmoon”.
This honk is ambiguous because in English “honk” refers both to the act of honking and the quacking sound that geese make.
Bungie has also already commented: It is definitely the most wonderful, exotic weapon ornament ever created by the community. Of course, everyone knew it would never come in the game like this. But wait: This is Destiny 2, and if you play “Destiny”, you have to expect anything. Bungie thought so too.
As players discuss how cool it is that Bungie has now actually honored “Honk Moon” with the Halloween event 2021, community manager Cozmo23 chimes in.
You asked about “Honk Moon”. It is all your fault.

“It’s hellishly ugly, but I just have to wear it!”
You simply have to wear it: Once you put it on, you really wonder: Why does my head look so much like the moon? Why is there a beak on it? What is with the megaphone-like tunnel? Who the hell actually put this thing together so miserably with tape? And what even is a “Honk Moon”?
This old goose is to blame: The “Honk Moon” weapon ornament and mask were inspired by the goose from the indie game sensation “Untitled Goose Game”.
- In it, you play a terrible goose that creates chaos.
- All the possessions of the local villagers are stolen by the goose and dragged into its hideout.
- The game started on Nintendo Switch and took the gaming community by storm.
- “Untitled Goose Game” is crazy, but you can’t stop playing it.
Now Destiny 2 also has a crazy goose: The Honk Moon mask is already an absolute Destiny 2 cult. Even if it looks crazy, doesn’t honk, and comes across like a Vuvuzela from hell: “Honk Moon” simply has to be worn and enjoyed. Cabal? Fallen? Doesn’t matter – bring a HONK! Because with a honk, you can honk everything away.
Bungie loves community fan art
Bungie has long praised the artists of the Destiny 2 community. On the official page and in the weekly blog “This Week at Bungie”, images and creations along with their designers are regularly showcased by the developer.
The ideas there are not only beautiful but also creative. And now one of those ideas has even made it live in the game. The creator of the original Honkmoon weapon ornament has come forward again after the release of the mask in the game and finds it just genius:
When I created this hideous concept after seeing your post, I never expected it to come into the game in any way.

Players shouldn’t be surprised if they encounter a lot of cult honk moons in the open world right now.
Can Bungie top this?: This year, the festival has returned for players as a great experience. It has been refreshed, offering both activity and story. And with “Honk Moon”, the community has really had a laugh during the festival. The cult ducks are now running around everywhere and even the Nightfall bosses are not spared from the honking visit.
If Bungie wants to top this next year, perhaps with “The Cowlony” or “Le Moo-narque”.
Have you already earned the “Honk Moon” mask and are now the coolest honk in Destiny 2? Or do you just find the honking goose mega embarrassing? Maybe you prefer the penguin mask? Write to us which mask is your personal favorite this year.
