Since early to mid December, players have noticed a change in Destiny 2 : The once rare Enhancement Cores are now dropping more frequently. The strange thing is: It’s not mentioned anywhere. Players are therefore skeptical about their luck. Maybe it’s a bug and not a secret buff.
What are Enhancement Cores? The crafting material was introduced with “Curse of Osiris” in Destiny 2. You need this material to upgrade legendary items to Masterworks and for infusion.
For frequent players, these are highly sought-after items used to further refine and enhance the Guardian’s gear. In fact, these are items you can never have enough of, and there are constantly too few around. Especially in Beyond Light, the items are more important than ever. With the weapon retirement , it’s time to acquire a new arsenal.
The items can be obtained from numerous sources in Destiny 2, and you have a chance to score an Enhancement Core from many activities and reputation rewards.
We had several articles on MeinMMO about how to obtain Enhancement Cores: They have been a sought-after commodity for years, and they represented a bottleneck to slow down the progression of gear.
Secret change or a bug?
What has changed now? Actually nothing, at least officially not. There is no statement from Bungie that they have tweaked anything regarding Enhancement Cores.
However, many players have noticed that they are finding significantly more Enhancement Cores since early to mid December. Now, Guardians are repeatedly picking up Enhancement Cores from random world drops. Apparently, all legendary engrams now have a high chance of containing not just a legendary item, but also an Enhancement Core.
This is how it’s being discussed: On reddit, there is a bit of cynicism: It’s suspected that this might be a bug that Bungie will fix as soon as they return from vacation and notice what’s going on.
Bungie is notorious for fixing player-identified bugs immediately. Some Guardians joke that Bungie would likely remove Enhancement Cores “due to an error” entirely from the game or absurdly increase the costs for upgrades.
More optimistic Guardians believe this could be a deliberate, secret change that came with one of the recent hotfixes. This way, even runs in Lost Sectors that don’t yield Exotics would at least offer a reasonable consolation prize.
Overall, players are quite pleased with the change: Many have noticed that they are now getting more Enhancement Cores and are happy about this unexpected gift, whether it’s intentional or not.

These are positive news coming from Destiny 2. But we have dealt in an extensive article with the problems of the game prior to 2021. The whole subgenre of MMO shooters doesn’t seem to be in good shape at the moment:
