Destiny was released in 2014 and only a few weeks after the launch, players found a way to kill the then-raid boss Atheon with a cheap trick. For years, it became a hobby of the Guardians to outsmart the big alien bosses and kill them from safe spots. However, in the new raid of Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, one boss is now turning the tables.
Spoiler Alert: The text contains a short video of the boss from the new raid in “Destiny 2: Witch Queen”.
How did players trick the bosses in Destiny? There is a long history of how players in Destiny exploit bugs in the game or use certain game mechanics to ruthlessly kill and showcase the “strongest raid bosses” of their time:
- The 1st boss Atheon was consistently shoved off its platform.
- In the case of boss Crota, players pulled the LAN cable, immobilizing him and then defeated him. Over time, Crota became such a joke that people “danced him to death”.
- Poor Skolas appeared in the hype around the Gjallarhorn and was simply “gjallarhorned” away.
- For other raid bosses, completely exaggerated synergy effects in the game were used to achieve huge damage numbers.
- Even in the original Nightfall strikes in Destiny, Twitch streamers like Nexxoss exploited so-called “safe spots” to solo kill bosses while they couldn’t retaliate.
Because “exploit”, the use of game bugs, sounded somewhat negative and like “cheating”, it became common in Destiny to call something a “cheese”. It sounded much friendlier.
Over the years, cheesing became a national sport in Destiny. Besides the utterly silly play with a ball in the tower and posting “I already knew all of this” under guides on MeinMMO, Guardians loved nothing more in their free time than to cheese bosses.
New Raid Boss “cheeses” the players
What’s different now? The newest boss in Destiny 2 is relatively unusual: While previous bosses were mainly bulky, monstrous, and staring at weapons and could be easily outsmarted, the new boss is slim and delicate.
A clip has caused a lot of stir. A player in Destiny 2 wanted to cleverly hide from the raid boss “Ruhlk”: He picked a safe spot behind a pillar.
But this boss is not stupid. He obviously recognizes the trick and simply walks “outside the boundaries of the game world” past him and kicks the player into the eternal hunting grounds.
In this case, the boss “cheesed” the player instead of the other way around.
Players are certainly excited about the change: The new boss is something completely different and has already generated many memes in the community. Even the player who was outsmarted can’t stop laughing.
Speaking of “cheese”, one weapon is inextricably linked to it:
