Attention players have discovered a massive nerf to an exotic rocket launcher in Destiny 2 that was not communicated by Bungie. Rocket launchers were supposed to be significantly buffed. What is going on?
This exotic weapon is the focus: It is about the exotic rocket launcher “Eyes of Tomorrow”. This weapon was introduced with the expansion Beyond Light and is available as a random drop only after defeating the final boss in the latest raid “Deep Stone Crypt”.
The rocket launcher is quite a powerful weapon and has been referred to by some experts as the strongest exotic in a long time. Comparisons to the absolute cult rocket launcher Gjallarhorn from the first game have also been made.
Eyes of Tomorrow is therefore highly sought after by many guardians. Some are still grinding in the raid on repeat to earn this powerful piece.
Exotic rocket launcher was supposed to be stronger – now 33% weaker
This was supposed to happen: Many owners of the exotic weapon were already looking forward to the new Season 13. With the start of the new season, rocket launchers, which had generally been somewhat forgotten, were finally supposed to play a more important role again.
Bungie announced that rocket launchers would be significantly buffed with Season 12. Against mini-bosses and even more powerful enemies, the weapon category was supposed to deal 30% more damage. Although it was stated that exotic rocket launchers would be tuned individually, they were also supposed to be generally strengthened – even if not quite as much as legendary counterparts.
What exactly happened to this exotic weapon? As it turns out, rocket launchers were noticeably buffed – including exotic ones like the Two-Tailed Fox (be sure to try it out now). However, keen players quickly noticed something was off with Eyes of Tomorrow. Instead of encountering a small damage increase, they actually found a nerf.

Instead of shining, this exotic has now become “practically useless” in the eyes of many players. What particularly upset some was that Bungie did not communicate this nerf in the patch notes. Consequently, it was assumed that it happened secretly.
What Bungie says about the whole thing
Recently, Bungie spoke out on Twitter and Reddit – through Community Manager Cozmo23.
He consulted with the development team and explained that any damage reduction to Eyes of Tomorrow was not intentional and appears to be a bug. The team is already looking into it.
What is intended, however, is the now correct activation for the damage bonus perk “Adaptive One”. This is now only triggered by kills with the rocket launcher (as stated in the description) and is no longer possible through kills with any weapon.
The damage bug is expected to be fixed in a future update. It’ll be exciting to see how this exotic rocket launcher performs in Season 13 when it finally achieves its intended strength.
