Currently, the Guardian Games 2024 are taking place in Destiny 2, giving players the opportunity to find out which class is the best. This is a tradition that occurs annually, but fans see the event as a disaster for several reasons.
What are the Guardian Games? The Guardian Games are a recurring event in Destiny 2 that resemble the Olympic Games. All three classes, Hunter, Warlock, and Titan, compete against each other. Points are collected to crown the best class of the year. As an incentive, new weapons and resources are available that players can grind through quests.
In theory, this sounds like a great concept, but players are tired of the same stuff after many years of repetitions, and 2024 isn’t improving things. Players have checked out the new event and are not satisfied.

“The only thing more stale than the seasons are events”
What reasons make the Guardian Games bad? On Reddit, players have expressed their frustrations about the Guardian Games. The reasons include many things that they dislike, such as:
- The endlessly long matchmaking of the Guardian Games
- No incentives to participate
- Hunters leading as the most played class and winning handily
- The best rewards are languishing in the real money shop
- Modes offer no variety
The only highlight for Guardian players is the new Hoverboard, which many Guardians indulged in during the first week, but after this goal was achieved, many players disappeared and wanted nothing to do with the Guardian Games.
There is also a grenade launcher, but it’s not interesting enough compared to the old weapons that players have been familiar with for a long time.
Meanwhile, Eververse is getting two new armor sets. One in the fitting Guardian Games look and the other designed after the Gjallarhorn. Additionally, there is another exotic variant of the Hoverboard that can be used permanently, while the free Hoverboard is tied to the usual grind and FOMO.
The only cosmetic items from the Guardian Games are the game memento for your crafted weapons and the Allstar ring that can be turned into an ornament. Considering the Guardian Games 2024 as a whole, the event feels like reheated coffee that many players already know.
What do you think of the event? Are you having fun despite the familiar modes and rewards, or are you steering clear and prefer to play other games like Helldivers 2? Let us know in the comments!
