A major wish of many players in Destiny 2 is random rolls on the exotic armor pieces sold by the mysterious exotic vendor Xur week after week. What does this look like in the upcoming Season 9? In this regard, Bungie has now spoken out.
What is the deal with Xur? Xur is a vendor NPC known for his exotic offerings – dating back to Destiny 1, where he became somewhat of a cult figure.
He visits every Friday, bringing with him a selected exotic weapon (excluding quest exotics) as well as 3 random armor exotics (including Forsaken exotics) for a duration of several days – one piece for each of the 3 Guardian classes. This weekend is no different: Destiny 2: Xur today – location and offerings on December 6th.
So what about random rolls in Season 9 with Xur?
Where does the info come from? In a recent Reddit post, numerous Destiny players once again expressed their wish for random rolls on Xur’s exotic armor.
Introducing random rolls for the dusty exotic vendor in Season 9 could revitalize him, as currently he leads a rather dull existence, especially for veterans and experienced players, bordering on uselessness.
In this thread, the Community Manager dmg04 from Bungie surprisingly chimed in and brought clarity.
Here’s the situation with random rolls on the offered armor pieces: There will be no random rolls for the armor pieces offered by Xur (i.e., randomly high attribute values) in Season 9. He is sorry to have to announce it, but they want to keep expectations in check.
The directly offered armor items from Xur will continue to have the same rolls as the corresponding exotics from the collection. This is more of an opportunity for new players who have not yet earned the items to check them off and then play with the exotic perks.
What about the Fate Engram? Xur will, however, offer an updated exotic engram instead of the previous Fate Engram.
From this, you will receive missing exotics – one per week. Once you have all the missing exotic weapons together, this engram will yield armor exotics – with random rolls. Another source for exotics with random rolls will also still be Nightfall: The Ordeal.
Therefore, many are wishing for a change: Currently, Xur is not really exciting for many. Seasoned players should have most of the exotics available through Xur by now – many even with good stats.
By then, Xur is not really interesting anymore. After the transition to the new armor standard, Armor 2.0, the exotics from his offerings are identical to those from the collection – including their at best average stats, the total points for attributes, and elemental affinity.
Therefore, those hoping to obtain a better or more suitable exotic from Xur will be disappointed. Hunting for the perfect roll is only very limitedly possible through Xur.
At best, for fresh players who started with Shadowkeep or the Free-to-Play version Destiny 2: New Light, Xur can still be really useful to acquire some missing exotics.
However, before the introduction of Armor 2.0, Xur was still more interesting for many. He used to sell exotic armors with random rolls of perks, sometimes even absolute god rolls, i.e., top combinations, such as the One-Eyed Mask with improved hand cannon targeting.
While with Armor 2.0, you can essentially determine these perks yourself, there are now several additional attributes on the armors that can vary in height. This is precisely where many would have wished for more chances at a suitable, perfect roll – with the help of Xur. However, for Season 9, unfortunately, nothing will come of this – at least not at the start.
Further changes for the future are not categorically ruled out. Dmg04 concluded his response by stating that Bungie will continue to closely observe player feedback on this issue. Additional adjustments could certainly still come.
What do you think about this decision? Would you have appreciated random rolls on the directly sold exotics from Xur? Or is the weekly chance for a possible good random roll from the new exo-engram sufficient for you?
