As part of the grind for the final Solstice Armor, you need to achieve 2,000 elemental kills in Destiny 2. One player has found a way to achieve many kills comfortably while being AFK – without ruining the game experience for others.
What’s the deal with kill farming? Currently, the Solstice of Heroes is taking place in Destiny 2. This is a summer event during which Destiny 2 wraps up its year before a new major expansion.
Among other things, you need to earn a lavish event armor. This armor comes in various tiers, and you need to complete a variety of tasks to upgrade it to the highest quality level.
One of these tasks requires players to achieve a proud 2,000 elemental kills. While you can complete this over time, if you want to tackle this step deliberately, it can take a while.
There’s an easier way: Reddit user and Destiny player Schendziee has discovered a clever method to simplify the grind for elemental kills. This can complete the elemental kills in a relatively short time, and it even works completely AFK – without ruining the experience and mood for other players.
This is how the AFK farming method for Solstice kills works
The prerequisites: First, you need to wait for a Solar day during the Solstice event (every 3rd day). Each day focuses on a different element, but the trick only works on Solar days, as it benefits from the elemental Solar Empowered effect.
Once you’ve hit a Solar day, head to the Forsaken dungeon “The Shattered Throne,” which is now accessible at any time. Equip a Solar focus and Solar weapons – at least at the crucial spot.
Some Guardians can certainly pull off the trick alone. If it’s too difficult, it can also be done in a team.
This is how it works: Now, you need to play through the throne until beyond the first boss encounter – all the way to the point where you reach the so-called Thrall Room or Area. Here, endless waves of possessed Thralls spawn. How to get there is explained in this article and video:
Once you’re in the Thrall Room, you need to generate and collect 30 elemental charges using Solar weapons and abilities.
After you’ve collected 30 of them, you will be Solar Empowered for 30 seconds. During this time, you emit Solar pulse waves that deal area damage, have faster health regeneration, and your Solar super has an extended duration.
While you are Solar Empowered, find a spot in the room (preferably a corner) where the enemies continuously rush at you. Now, you can essentially put down the gamepad or mouse and keyboard, sit back, or do something else entirely.
Because of the Solar Empowered buff effect, the weak Thralls are eliminated en masse right in front of you. Constantly new Solar spheres are generated, allowing the effect to be continuously extended and maintained. And the increased healing keeps you alive against the weak enemies without any issues.

Even if you go completely AFK, you should manage to achieve the necessary kills until you land in orbit due to inactivity. In the worst case, you might have to restart at the corresponding checkpoint – but after that, the kills should be completed. There is no time pressure from a timer here.
What about the room in the Whisper mission on Io: Some cite the Whisper mission on Io as another possible kill farm, where endless thralls also respawn until the mission timer kicks you out. And yes, you can also gather kills there. However, probably not as quickly, and you can’t go AFK. Because before the Solar Empowered buff expires, enemies don’t respawn (quickly) enough there to effectively extend the buff.
