With the release of Destiny 2 on PC, Bungie is venturing into new territory. This has led many players to express doubts about the suitability of the PC version. The community manager has now elaborated on what PC players can expect.
At the Nvidia conference during this year’s Gamescom 2017, Bungie’s community manager, Deej, went into more detail about the features of the PC version and emphasized that PC players are treated as “first-class citizens” – meaning equally with players on PS4 and Xbox One.
The PC version is not simply a console port, but has been developed from the ground up for the most powerful hardware.
What features does the PC version offer?
Some features like the open framerate were already known. In addition to a field-of-view adjustment option and support for SLI (using multiple Nvidia graphics cards), particularly the support for voice and text chat as well as HDR is likely to excite players.
HDR (High Dynamic Range) provides better contrasts and “more vibrant” colors. Although many gamers already have an HDR-capable TV in their living room, the console version of Destiny 2 will initially forgo HDR, as Bungie explained a few weeks ago. HDR is therefore currently PC-exclusive. However, this feature is expected to be added to consoles soon.
This allows text chat to explain to players without a headset what they did wrong in a raid. This is a feature that is not available on consoles and should prevent a lot of frustration – especially in the Guided Games.
The 4K support and the support for ultra-wide monitors were also mentioned again.
On August 24, a so-called “Game Ready Driver” for the Destiny 2 beta will be available for download according to Nvidia. Nvidia also announced that they will be giving away beta codes in the near future. Additionally, a special GeForce GTX 1080 TI bundle will be released.
Robert says: The features of the PC version show that Bungie has invested a lot to excite PC players for Destiny 2. In particular, the announcement of text chat should save frustration for players who cannot or do not want to use a headset.
