Many players are currently criticizing the lack of variety in the map rotation for the October Iron Banner of Destiny 2. But there appears to be a reason for it. Here you will find out what it’s all about.
This is frustrating many players: The first Iron Banner in Year 3 of Destiny 2 is currently in full swing. Numerous players are diving into the Crucible under the watchful eyes of Lord Saladin and competing against other Guardians in this one-week PvP event.
However, after the first two days, criticism of the map rotation in the October Iron Banner is increasing. The selection of rotating maps is very limited. So far, only the three new maps that were introduced with Shadowkeep are being played. These are the two maps
- Widow’s Court
- Dawnblade
from the Destiny 1 era and the brand new map
- Fragment
But for many, this is ultimately too little and will quickly become boring. It is further complicated by the fact that for many Guardians, even the rotation of these 3 maps does not work properly, and they sometimes play the same map 5 times or even more in a row. For some Guardians, that really doesn’t feel like fun.
This is the reason for the limited map selection: Fans initially speculated whether the rotation is really as limited for everyone or if some just had bad luck individually. Bungie itself had not communicated anything in advance. But it quickly became clear – they were not alone with this annoying circumstance.
Now the studio has spoken out on Twitter and explained the situation. The first two days of the October Iron Banner served as a kind of introduction for the 3 new maps. The limited rotation was intentional – it was neither a bug nor just bad luck.
When will the map rotation change? Starting today, Thursday, October 17, the map rotation is supposed to be adjusted. For the rest of the week, there will be a rotating mix of new and classic maps.
Bungie did not specify an exact time for the expansion of the map pool. However, such changes usually happen at reset time – currently around 7:00 PM. By then, you can probably expect more variety in the PvP maps in the Iron Banner.
