Destiny 2 disables an Exotic again. The reason this time was a drastic glitch that allowed Titans to easily solo the raid boss Riven.
What did Bungie do? It concerns the exotic Titan Gauntlets, Wormgod’s Grip. These were disabled by Bungie yesterday, on January 7, 2020, as the studio announced on Twitter.
This armor Exotic was introduced in Season 3 (2018) with the Warmind DLC. The exotic perk is called Burning Fists. Melee kills temporarily increase melee damage. Additional kills also extend the duration and increase the effect.
Why was this armor Exotic disabled? The reason for the disabling was a new or at least recently discovered glitch. As players found out, it was possible for Titans with the gauntlets to turn the throwing hammer (melee attack in the code of the Colossus) into an extremely powerful weapon that was very effective against single strong enemies such as raid or strike bosses.
The glitch has likely been in the game for some time, but was just recently discovered or gained enough attention because it was picked up by numerous large Destiny streamers and spread rapidly among players.
This is not the first time Bungie has had to disable an Exotic. “Broken” Exotics have previously led to such reactions from the developers several times in Destiny 2.
What exactly did the glitch do? The glitch allowed players to stack the exotic buff of the gauntlets to maximum and then maintain it permanently while paying attention to a few things – even though the buff actually has a countdown timer.
This was nullified by the glitch, making it possible to benefit from this effect continually.
Thus, each Titan’s throwing hammer dealt enormous damage to individual enemies and could easily be picked up and thrown again – until the respective enemy was dead (a melee kill reset the buff).
Strike bosses, Majors were sometimes taken down in seconds. It was even possible to solo the final boss from the Forsaken raid, Last Wish, the Ahamkara Riven, as seen in the following video by Ehroar:
When can the gauntlets be used again? Bungie did not specify when a solution can be expected. The tweet only mentioned that the gauntlets are disabled until a fix is released at a later time.
Afterward, these exotic gauntlets will likely disappear just as quickly as they recently attracted attention due to the glitch. Because they are not among the top Exotics for Titans.
What do you think about Bungie’s quick response? Was it the right move? Or would you have liked to have a bit more fun with these gauntlets? Sometimes Bungie lets Guardians play around with such things – like the “Lord of Wolves” shotgun once.
