In Destiny 2 there is an interesting new development: NPCs that can play the game for players. And often even more efficiently than the Guardians themselves. MeinMMO shows you how effective the new allies are and why the players find it quite amusing.
Which allies has Destiny 2 sent into the race? For a few seasons, the Vanguard has formed an alliance with the Cabal. This means Caiatl, the current Empress of the Cabal Empire, allows her troops to fight side by side with the Guardians. And that happens more and more often.
- Since the Season of the Resurrected, the Empress’s Cabal forces have been supporting the Guardians. For the first time in the Psi-Ops Battlegrounds on the Moon.
- In the Lightfall campaign, the Cabal troops defend the ominous Veil, the central object of the campaign, in an epic battle against the Darkness.
- Now, in the current Season 20, the new Cabal allies can even be found in several places in the revised Strike “The Arms Dealer” – thus an active part of the playlist.
Sounds good. The only problem is that these allies either stand in the way or, in some cases, are even more effective than the Guardians themselves. They take away from the players the greatest pleasure, stealing the kill of the strike’s final boss right before their eyes.
Guardians only play second fiddle in Strikes now
Some Guardians are not happy about this, like the well-known Destiny 2 streamer Gladd. He complains on Twitter to Bungie that the new Cabal allies just stand in his way and that he can no longer play.
Contrary to Gladd’s streamer luxury problems, other Guardians in Destiny 2 recognize a much more important issue with the support from Caiatl’s troops, as player SneakyBeaver.
If NPCs now coldly steal the kills from players, even with precision skills that even outshine Cayde-6, then it effectively costs players their points. In the worst case, one might miss the successful strike completion of 130,000 points and need another run.
Accordingly, SneakyBeaver replied to Gladd with a comment, stating:
I actually had the opposite problem. I was trying to farm points and the Cabal allies take away your kills and you don’t get points if you didn’t shoot [the enemies] [yourself].
remarks SneakyBeaver to Gladd on Twitter
You can see how efficiently Caiatl’s troops operate on the “Grandmaster” difficulty level in this video clip:
In the strike “The Arms Dealer” in the European Dead Zone, playing Destiny 2 has almost become an automated process for the playing Guardians, allowing them to only do emotes.
The Cabal are meanwhile aggressively attacking their relatives and inflicting damage without pause. Thus, the Guardians have no choice but to watch the commotion from the sidelines and wonder why they suddenly play just second fiddle in Destiny 2.
Real help or annoying blockade? While Gladd feels blocked, there are other players who still find the new NPC allies useful.
Especially for solo players or players who struggle to manage certain activities, Caiatl’s troops could indeed be a welcome support. After all, their high effectiveness helps in overcoming difficult tasks and reducing playtime.
We would be interested in your opinions and experiences with the NPC troops. Are they no problem for you or are they just as annoying to you in the strike “The Arms Dealer” as they are to Gladd? Feel free to leave us your thoughts on the topic in the comments.
