The Chef of Destiny 2: Beyond Light finally reveals the information about Transmog that Guardians have been waiting for. If you want to look good, you won’t need a full vault anymore soon.
This is what players have been waiting for: Destiny 2 is finally getting a real Transmog feature in Year 4. Fashion-conscious Guardians have been waiting for this since Destiny 1. We now have new information about how an important part of the system is supposed to work.
- To use the look of your favorite armor for Transmog, you don’t need to stash it in the vault or your inventory
- It’s enough to have registered the item once in your collection
- Then you can pull the appearance from the collection at any time
- Once the appearance is registered in the collection, you can safely delete the corresponding armor piece
Year 4 will kick off in less than 2 weeks with Destiny 2: Beyond Light. However, the Transmog system will not be available immediately with the parallel starting Season of the Hunt.
This is useful when the new armor is stronger or has a higher level but does not appeal to you visually. This way, players can run around looking the way they like without having to give up the power of new items.
That’s why this information is so important: This is great news because it means you can dismantle everything you’ve accumulated in your overstuffed vaults over the years without worry. Fear of needing the item later has led to irrelevant armors being kept for years.
Keep in mind that until recently, Destiny developer Bungie itself wasn’t sure if old armors can be dismantled. There was a possibility that the items and their looks could be permanently lost as a result. This makes the often neglected collection a lot more important.

Where does the information about Transmog come from? The Game Director for Destiny 2, Luke Smith, personally announced the news. He did so during an interview on the Weekly Twitch Gaming Show (from 1:25 hour).
When asked if Smith could reveal a secret about Beyond Light, he instead spoke about Transmog. Because players keep asking him: “What about Transmog?”.
