Bungie has tinkered with the technology of Destiny 2 and has now surprised players with good news. Transferring items via the official app or through third-party services now works 10 times faster than before.
This is the announcement: This came as a surprise. Currently, the eyes of most Guardians are likely directed at the ongoing Solenwende of Heroes, the upcoming new autumn expansion Destiny 2: Beyond Light or the new Stasis classes.
But now another topic is also generating discussion. Recently, Bungie announced dryly and without much fanfare on their Help account on Twitter that they have tinkered with the API interface of Destiny. As a result, most players can now transfer their items using the official companion app, but also through third-party apps about 10 times faster than before.
Transferring items via the app is likely one of the most used app features overall. It saves players the tedious trip to the vault.

How does that look in practice? It sounds very nice, but how does it work in practice? Apparently just as well as it sounds.
Because numerous players on reddit and social media rave about the results and confirm that the item transfer via app is now noticeably faster. I, Sven Galitzki from MeinMMO, also tested it on my PS4 Pro and can confirm the significantly shorter transfer times.
Although I didn’t measure the times, using Ishtar Commander on an iPhone, there is no significant delay anymore. What used to take between 5 and 10 seconds now happens almost instantly – as if you were pulling the item directly from the vault in the game.
The transfer via Bungie’s official companion app now runs significantly faster than before, although I did experience a brief delay at times – like a micro-stutter. But now it’s occasional and with a very short delay. As other users report, it should also run much faster with the Destiny Item Manager (DIM).
In short: Based on reports and personal experiences, the item transfer via app with the most common applications is indeed significantly faster now.
What do the players say? The Guardians are pleased about this surprising news. Both on reddit and on social media, compliments for this small but fine “Quality of Life” improvement are piling up.
Some are now urging Bungie to finally reduce the long load times – in menus and generally in the game. Here, a 10x faster load would still be damn slow, but still better than it currently is – especially on consoles.
What is the API all about? API stands for “application programming interface” and is essentially the interface between Destiny 2 and external services that access certain game data through Bungie’s online database. For example, current player statistics or vendor inventories can be read and displayed through other applications.
