In Destiny 2, most players have already completed the seasonal activity “Nightmare Containment” multiple times. But have you opened all the secret doors on the Derelict Leviathan? If not, you may have missed out on some loot. MeinMMO reveals how to find these extra treasure chests.
During the “Season of the Haunted,” Guardians in Destiny 2 can currently play “Nightmare Containment,” a free public event. It is one of the seasonal activities on the Derelict Leviathan and grants a regular loot chest at level 3.
What kind of extra treasure chests are there? In addition to this regular loot from level 3, there are also extra hidden treasure chests to be found during the Nightmare Containment activity that are not so easily discoverable.
These additional loot chests are behind locked doors that players must first search for. They can only be opened when players receive the prompt “Lock protocols in the Castell have been temporarily suspended” at the lower left corner of the screen.

How to lift the lock protocol of the Nightmare Containment?
In order to lift the lock protocol, you must first play the activity “Nightmare Containment” up to level 3.
- When you reach level 3 of the Nightmare Containment and defeat the boss, a 2-minute timer starts.
- Now the lock protocol is lifted, and the message “Lock protocols in the Castell have been temporarily suspended” appears.
- The prompt at the lower left of the screen informs you how many chests you can now find and open.
Here’s how to find the five secret doors
There are a total of five of these secret doors in the Castell on the Derelict Leviathan. They are quite hidden in niches, but still recognizable by the red lights. Each door also has a switch that you must activate to open it.
Once you know how many doors are unlocked for you at level 3, you can use the two-minute timer to find out which of them are open.
Pay attention to the visual and audio cues: To make it easier, Bungie has added visual markers for you. Additionally, the switches of the doors emit a consistent beep that you can hear as you get closer.
Despite all these clues, it’s good to know where you need to run. Because the Leviathan is huge, and the time to open the secret chests is limited.
All locations of the secret doors in the Castell:
- 1 Door: Left side next to the boss area of the Nightmare Containment in a side room
- 2 Door: Right side next to the boss area of the Nightmare Containment in a side room
- 3 Door: From the Castell spawn point immediately to the left
- 4 Door: Above the round central area at the exit leading to the Gardens of Desire
- 5 Door: Left of the spawn, near the curved ramp that leads downward
Destiny 2 players have already created a map of the Derelict Leviathan, where you can also see the locations of the secret doors.
By the way: Behind one of these secret doors is also a bobblehead of Calus that you need to complete the seasonal quest triumph “Biggest Fan” and the Season title “Reaper.” If you discover all the bobbleheads, the triumph rewards you with the “Eidolon” ghost shell.
