On time for the anniversary of the moon landing, Bungie released a new video for the upcoming expansion of Destiny 2. In Shadowkeep, the German title “Festung der Schatten,” players return to the moon, which was already part of Destiny 1. In the video, the developers show how the location has changed and how creepy the Earth’s satellite looks now compared to the previous game.
What’s happening with the moon? The next expansion for Destiny 2, Shadowkeep, will take place on the moon. The earth’s satellite was already playable in Destiny 1 and was an important part of the story.
Mark Noseworthy and Luke Smith from Bungie explained that the moon in Shadowkeep has changed and evolved compared to Destiny 1. They want to give new players and veterans something to explore with the location. Destiny 1 players should feel familiar with the moon, but they should also sense that something is off.
Bungie has now released a new video showing the new location of Shadowkeep and how strange and creepy the moon has become.
How has the moon changed? As the developers explain in the video, the idea for returning to the moon started as a “passion project.” They wanted to see if they could take the moon from Destiny 1 and bring it to Destiny 2 without it having to hide from the other areas in the game.
The moon has been “remastered” in Shadowkeep, completely overhauled and equipped with new lighting and effects. The satellite now appears darker and gloomier overall, and the developers play with shadows, giving the moon a mysterious quality.
What can be seen is an area where strange human shapes are floating in the sky. There are also some regions that players from Destiny 1 are likely to recognize, such as the crashed Ketch, which the Fallen are now building into a base.
Additionally, a small part of a cinematic featuring Eris Morn can be seen, which is still in development. Eris is in a cave and touching a stone wall that slowly begins to crumble and reveal something. Apparently, she has awakened a “hidden darkness,” as the Bungie developers say. However, what that exactly is has not yet been revealed.
What are the players saying? The players in the Destiny subreddit are particularly discussing the details they noticed in the video. In one scene, a Vex gate can be seen that looks similar to the one that led to the Black Garden in Destiny 1 on Mars in the Black Garden. One player wonders if this is now the entrance to the garden on the moon.
Furthermore, the players are celebrating the Sparrows seen in the clip. One vehicle looks very similar to the exotic fusion rifle Jötunn. In another scene, a Sparrow with a lion’s head is seen, just like the exotic grenade launcher Howl of the Lion.
Did you discover any other details? What do you think of the video about the moon?
