With the Weekly Reset on Tuesday, August 6, an update for Destiny 2 was supposed to come that increases the drop rate of some exotic items. Unfortunately, that did not work out, as Bungie has to admit. Even worse. Instead of more exotic class items, the coveted items are now even rarer.
That was the plan: Update 8.05 was supposed to bring a series of fixes and balance changes. The most anticipated aspect was:
- Chests related to the Overthrow activity would have a higher chance of dropping exotic class items – these items are highly sought after and relatively hard to obtain.
The “Overthrow” activity was newly introduced with The Final Shape in Destiny 2, which is an activity that can be completed solo or with up to 3 players.
Patch does the exact opposite of the plan
What is the problem? As Bungie reported on the evening of August 7, they found a problem with the drop rates for the exotic class items.
The chests in Tier 4 of the Overthrow activity do not contribute to an increased drop rate. Worse yet: They can no longer drop any exotic class items.
So, the exact opposite of what was planned happened: Instead of the chests getting better and dropping more exotic class items, they now drop none at all.
What happens next? Bungie says they are working on a quick fix, a hotfix. They are also working on giving players a way to chase specific perks. However, that is still in the planning stage.
Players demand: Dissolve Bungie and hand Destiny 2 over to Sony
How is this being discussed? Very sharply. It is said that the situation with the exotic class items is a disaster. Sony should best just dissolve Bungie and take over Destiny themselves.
Others thank Bungie for confirming that there was a problem. They had already doubted their sanity, feeling that they noticed no “buff” and found even fewer items than before.
